Hacker Problems in Azeroth

On Sunday, a hacker group called Lizard Squad swung into action against a number of highly vulnerable networks and online objectives with apparently one thing in mind: to create havoc and mayhem.

US users of the PlayStation network were unable to log on through their PS 3 and PS 4 consoles through Sunday. The message they were served said the network was down for maintenance.

The same hacker group has apparently managed to take down a number of Blizzard servers as well, disrupting World of Warcraft and a number of other online games like the eSports staple League of Legends and Path of Exile.

According to the targeted operations, the hacker attack was essentially a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack, which overwhelmed the targeted servers and networks with artificially generated traffic.

The same hacker group is also rumored to have made threats against a flight on which a Sony executive traveled. Apparently, the said American Airlines flight has been diverted to Phoenix, AZ as a cautionary measure.

According to emails sent out by Sony late Sunday, most of the affected services had been restored. It is unclear at this point whether the WOW servers are back up as well.

Exactly who these hackers have a bone to pick with is unclear at this point. What is known though in regards to the above said attacks is that the FBI is now involved in the investigation.
