Blizzard Pays Homage To Star Wars In World Of Warcraft

So Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been released and we’re sure many fans and moviegoers have wasted no time in rushing out to the cinemas to watch it. While we have yet to catch the movie for ourselves, early spoiler-free reviews have painted the movie in a very positive light. That being said, many companies have caught the Star Wars fever and Blizzard is no exception.

As you can see in the screenshot above, it seems that Blizzard has decided to equip all the guards of the capital cities with “lightsabers”. Granted these aren’t exactly the same, we can appreciate the gesture all the same. In fact World of Warcraft does have lightsaber-like weapons in the game, so this isn’t really the first we’re seeing this, albeit this is done on a grander scale.

According to Blizzard who announced the homage on the forums, “These aren’t the guards you’re looking for…Some sort of force awakens in both factions! We figured we’d pay homage to a galaxy far, far away that has long been near and dear to our geek hearts. Stop by Stormwind or Orgrimmar to pay respect to your guards and appreciate their exotic new weapons. They won’t be able to maintain the unfamiliar technology for long!”

That being said we doubt that these changes will stick around for long, but if you’d like to check it out, log into the game and head on over to either Stormwind or Orgrimmar for the Alliance and Horde respectively, or vice versa if you’re feeling brave enough to take on guards with lightsabers.
