If you are still mounting up in Silvermoon and flying all the way to the Coiled Isle every time World of Warcraft Season 2 sends you back there, you can stop.

There is a much faster route.

After completing the Season 2 Prey introduction, players gain access to a portal between Astalor's Sanctum in Silvermoon City and the Coiled Isle.

It works both ways.

And considering how many Season 2 activities now want you on the island, remembering that portal can save a surprising amount of travel time.

Your dragon can finally have a lunch break.

The Portal Is Inside Astalor's Sanctum

The Silvermoon side of the portal can be found inside Astalor's Sanctum, the same location used for the Prey system.

You will already be visiting Astalor Bloodsworn there for Hunts, Nightmare Prey and the refreshed Preyhunter's Journey progression.

After completing the relevant Season 2 Prey introductory quests, the portal becomes the fastest regular route between Silvermoon and the Coiled Isle.

There is even a quest during the Prey introduction that specifically sends you through the portal to check on Sanctum Attendant Ethrandil on the island.

Blizzard does occasionally teach us useful things.

We just have to resist skipping every quest window at maximum speed.

This Matters More Than It Sounds

The Coiled Isle is not somewhere most Season 2 players visit once and forget.

Patch 12.1 has turned the island into the center of several progression systems. We already looked at how Season 2 Prey sends players back to the Coiled Isle for new hunts and Nightmare targets.

The island also contains:

  • The Vaults of Atal'Utek
  • Curse Surges
  • Nightmare Prey activities
  • Nymrissa's Tidebound Grotto Lair
  • Season 2 Delves
  • Corrosive Soul activities
  • Ral'kala encounters
  • Rares, treasures and world quests

We knew before launch that Blizzard wanted the Coiled Isle to function as Patch 12.1's main outdoor hub.

Now that Season 2 is live, the weekly travel schedule confirms it.

Nightmare Prey Gives You Plenty of Reasons to Return

The portal is particularly useful now that Nightmare Prey is active.

Players completing A Nightmarish Task need three Nightmare Hunts, and we recently covered how those three Hunts can ultimately lead to guaranteed Hero-track loot through Azta'rec and a Trovehunter's Bounty.

Blizzard has also already started adjusting Nightmare Prey after launch, including nerfing Toxic Snare's damage and slowing effect.

So if Prey is part of your weekly routine, Astalor's Sanctum is going to become a familiar place.

You may as well use the door Blizzard put there.

You Can Still Fly If You Really Want To

Nothing stops you from reaching the Coiled Isle the old-fashioned way.

You can fly there directly, use the flight path to Tokka's Landing after unlocking it or, technically, swim from Zul'Aman if you have made several questionable decisions that morning.

But for ordinary travel from Silvermoon, the portal is faster.

So the next time your weekly checklist sends you back to the snake island:

Go to Astalor's Sanctum.

Take the portal.

Arrive on the Coiled Isle.

There are enough grinds in Season 2 already.

The commute does not need to be one of them.
