World of Warcraft: Midnight players ran into an unexpected gearing problem this week — and Blizzard has already moved to fix it.
A recent hotfix addressed an issue where Bind-on-Equip (BoE) items dropping in Midnight content were showing incorrect level requirements, leaving many level 90 players unable to use gear that should have been upgrades.
The fix is now live, restoring proper scaling and usability across affected items.
BoE Items Had Incorrect Level Requirements
Shortly after Midnight early access launched, players began noticing that certain BoE drops required level 80 instead of level 90, despite being obtained in level 90 content.
This created a strange situation where:
-
Newly dropped gear could not be equipped
-
Auction House purchases became unusable
-
Some players held high item-level gear they couldn’t wear
-
Confusion spread across trading and gearing communities
The issue quickly gained attention as more players reached max level and began farming endgame content.
Hotfix Now Live Across Servers
Blizzard deployed a hotfix to correct the scaling issue and restore proper item functionality.
BoE items now:
-
Scale correctly based on item level
-
Display proper level requirements
-
Can be equipped as intended
-
Function normally for level 90 characters
Players who already had affected items in their inventory should now be able to equip them without issue.
Community Reaction: Relief With Some Frustration
While players are happy to see the bug resolved quickly, many expressed frustration that such a noticeable issue made it into live early-access servers.
For players actively gearing during Midnight’s launch window, the bug temporarily slowed progression and created uncertainty around the value of BoE drops.
Still, the fast hotfix response has helped stabilize the gearing environment as more players push into max-level content.
Early Expansion Bugs Are Part of Launch Week
Major expansions often bring a wave of small technical issues as thousands of players interact with new systems simultaneously.
With Midnight still in its early days and the full global launch approaching, additional hotfixes and tuning adjustments are expected as Blizzard continues refining the experience.
For now, at least one major annoyance has been resolved — and players can once again equip the gear they’ve earned.
