A few days ago, Algeth’ar Academy was already looking like Midnight Season 1’s obvious Mythic+ problem child. Now Blizzard has effectively admitted it. As first spotted by Icy Veins, the dungeon’s timer has been increased by a full minute to 30 minutes, and Raider.IO is currently displaying a notice that it is “updating the timer for Algeth’ar Academy per the timer increase on 4/7/26.”
This is not exactly coming out of nowhere
The funny part is that this does not even feel surprising anymore.
In the first-week data breakdown we looked at in our piece on Midnight Season 1’s Mythic+ outliers, Algeth’ar Academy was already sitting at just 77.32% timed, making it the worst-performing dungeon in the pool by a pretty clear margin. Icy Veins also noted that it was nearly 7 percentage points behind the next dungeon, which is not the sort of gap you shrug off as players needing another day to learn the route.
Blizzard has already been sanding this dungeon down
This is also not the first time Blizzard has had to step in.
In the March 31 tuning pass on the official forums, Blizzard pushed a batch of Algeth’ar Academy changes ahead of the weekly reset. Then in the official April 9 hotfixes, Blizzard reduced pressure on several mechanics, including Mana Void targeting, and cut Arcane Rift duration on Echo of Doragosa to 90 seconds from 2 minutes while adding a short delay before some rifts spawn. So the extra minute is not a random one-off. It is part of a growing pattern: Blizzard keeps nudging this dungeon because it keeps standing out for the wrong reasons.
The timer was always part of the problem
That was the recurring complaint from players even before the change landed.
On the official forums, players were already calling Algeth’ar Academy “an outlier” and arguing that its timer felt too strict compared with the rest of the season’s dungeon pool. Some posters said the issue was tank pressure, some blamed routing and priority damage, and some said the dungeon was simply less forgiving of mistakes than other keys at the same level. Either way, the overall mood was not subtle: players were already talking like this was the key Blizzard would eventually have to rescue. One player even predicted, “They’ll add a few minutes to the timer.” Turns out they were only off by a little.
What this means for your keys this week
In plain English, your Algeth’ar Academy runs just got easier to time.
That does not mean the dungeon is suddenly free, and it does not magically delete every awkward pull, RP delay, or ugly wipe before a boss. But an extra minute in Mythic+ is not nothing, especially in a dungeon where the whole problem was that too many runs were dying on the clock rather than on raw survivability. Even Icy Veins framed the change as Blizzard stepping in because players simply were not timing the place often enough.
The bigger takeaway is pretty simple
Blizzard clearly looked at Algeth’ar Academy’s early numbers and decided this was not a “let the playerbase figure it out” situation.
That is actually the interesting part. Midnight Season 1 has been unusually forgiving overall, with strong in-time rates across the pool, and Algeth’ar Academy was one of the only dungeons dragging behind in a really visible way. When Blizzard starts tweaking mechanics, then quietly hands out an extra minute on the timer, that is not subtle tuning philosophy. That is Blizzard looking at the data and saying, “Yeah, this one needs help.”
So yes, the dungeon lost the argument
If you were running Algeth’ar Academy this week and wondering whether Blizzard also thought the timer was ridiculous, there is your answer.
A full extra minute is about as clear a public confession as a dungeon can get without a blue post titled “you were right, this key was annoying.” And honestly, for anyone still trying to push score this week, that is probably the only part that really matters.
