This was a small hotfix with very non-small consequences

Not every useful WoW fix arrives with a giant class tuning banner and three angry YouTube thumbnails. Sometimes Blizzard slips out one line in the hotfix notes that matters a lot more than it looks, and the April 3, 2026 update had exactly one of those. In the official hotfixes, Blizzard said “The Sun Darter Hatchling check for Mind-Seeker progress will no longer reset,” then added a pretty telling developer note: “We’re releasing this fix early to prevent additional players from encountering the issue.” Blizzard also says a follow-up change is planned for Patch 12.0.5 so the game can detect whether Sun Darter Hatchling has been unlocked on your account.

That is Blizzard language for “yes, this was bad enough that we did not want to wait.” And honestly, fair enough. When a secret-hunting achievement starts forgetting part of your progress, that is the kind of bug that turns curiosity into bitterness very quickly.

Why this one matters to secret hunters

The reason players care is simple: Sun Darter Hatchling is one of the secrets tied into Mind-Seeker, the hidden Feat of Strength and title connected to the Cabal of the Mind-Seekers. Warcraft Wiki and community guide coverage both identify the Record of the Caverns of Consumption – Sun Darter Hatchling as one of the tracked secrets shown in the hidden Mind-Seeker area, and Icy Veins’ earlier coverage of the discovery says players need to have completed at least 17 secrets to qualify for the achievement through Anakron.

So if one of those tracked records was resetting, this was not just a cosmetic hiccup. It meant players working toward one of WoW’s most niche and satisfying prestige achievements could end up second-guessing whether their progress was actually sticking. That is the kind of uncertainty secret content really does not survive well. Half the fun is solving the mystery. The other half is knowing the game remembers you did it.

Sun Darter Hatchling is not exactly a throwaway checkbox

This is also not some random recent collectible players stumbled into by accident. Sun Darter Hatchling is the old Caverns of Consumption secret pet from Winterspring, originally discovered years ago through a multi-step puzzle involving consumables, transformations, and enough obscure item usage to make normal players look at a guide and briefly reconsider their life choices. Warcraft Wiki still describes it as a hidden faerie dragon pet looted from the Oddly-Colored Egg at the end of the puzzle cave, and community secret guides still treat it as one of the more memorable legacy secrets in the game.

That gives the bug a little extra sting. If players had already gone back and done an old secret for the sake of Mind-Seeker, only to have the game quietly forget that progress on reset, that is exactly the kind of thing that makes secret hunters start mistrusting the system. Blizzard getting ahead of that before more people got hit was the right call.

The good news is Blizzard seems to understand the real problem

The most reassuring part of the hotfix is not just that Blizzard stopped the reset. It is that the follow-up fix planned for 12.0.5 is supposed to detect whether Sun Darter Hatchling has been unlocked on your account. That suggests Blizzard is not only plugging the immediate leak, but also trying to make the check more robust going forward. That is a lot better than just saying “should be fixed now” and hoping nobody asks follow-up questions in a week.

So no, this is not the flashiest WoW story of the day. But if you are one of the people chasing Mind-Seeker, or even just one of the weirdly dedicated goblins who enjoys WoW’s secret content more than is probably healthy, this is the sort of hotfix you absolutely want to see. Quiet fix. Smart timing. Real damage avoided. Very nice for once.
