According to Icy Veins’ latest Mythic+ activity breakdown, Week 7 saw overall Mythic+ runs drop by 6.94%, but the interesting movement was not simply fewer people playing. It was where players were pushing.
The data shows more activity shifting into the +12 to +16 range, with +16s becoming especially relevant for players chasing the new 3,400 Mythic+ rating mount reward. In other words, the middle-upper key range is getting busier because players can smell the mount, and collectors are not known for making emotionally healthy decisions.
The 3,400 Reward Changed the Shape of the Grind
The new Keystone Myth achievement gives players a Timelost Saddle for reaching 3,400 Mythic+ rating. That saddle can be exchanged for a mount from a curated pool of older and newer Mythic+ rewards.
As Method’s guide explains, players aiming for 3,400 generally need to complete all current Mythic+ dungeons at around Keystone level 16 or higher. That makes +16 the psychological wall: high enough to require real coordination, but still reachable for players who are serious without necessarily living inside Raider.IO like a cursed spreadsheet goblin.
That is a clever reward target. It gives high-end Mythic+ players something beyond the usual seasonal checkpoint, while also creating a way to chase older missed mounts without simply handing them out like holiday candy.
But it also changes player behavior.
Players Are Pushing Before the Next Power Spike
Icy Veins notes that higher-end players appeared to be waiting for major weapon and trinket upgrades, while others were using the current window to push toward the 3,400 mount reward. That is a very Mythic+ thing to do: grind now, upgrade later, complain throughout.
The result is a season where players are not all moving through keys for the same reason.
Some are farming gear. Some are chasing score. Some are aiming for the 3,000 mount. Some are pushing toward 3,400. Some are waiting for power upgrades before trying harder content. And some are probably just in the queue because their friend said “one quick key,” which remains one of the great lies of modern Azeroth.
This Is Good Reward Design — With One Big Risk
The best thing about the 3,400 reward is that it gives dedicated Mythic+ players a reason to keep pushing after the more common seasonal goals are done. That matters. Mythic+ has long needed better long-tail rewards that are prestigious without being completely unreachable.
But the risk is obvious: every new reward tier creates a new pressure point.
For some players, 3,400 will feel like a great aspirational target. For others, it will feel like the game quietly moved the “real” finish line further away. And once a mount is attached, the collector brain starts doing dangerous things with time management.
We have already covered how collector rewards can turn currencies into debt, and the same logic applies here. A mount reward is never “just optional” to the kind of player who still remembers the one seasonal mount they missed seven years ago.
The Mount Chase Is Doing Its Job
For now, the 3,400 reward seems to be doing exactly what Blizzard likely wanted: keeping serious Mythic+ players engaged beyond the normal seasonal milestones.
That is healthy, as long as the target feels fair and the reward stays prestigious without becoming miserable.
Because Mythic+ players will absolutely push through pain for a mount.
The only question is whether they will enjoy the climb — or simply arrive at 3,400 rating with a new saddle, a broken soul, and a very strong opinion about whichever dungeon ruined their week.
