World of Warcraft has many serious endgame systems. Raids. Mythic+. Delves. PvP. Carefully tuned class balance that definitely never causes arguments.

And then, somewhere in the Patch 12.1 PTR files, Blizzard apparently decided the real content was cats in tiny costumes.

Six new costume cat battle pets have been spotted, and they are currently listed as Trading Post rewards. That means collectors may soon face the most dangerous decision in Azeroth: spending Trader’s Tender on something deeply silly and pretending it was a strategic purchase.

Cat’Thuzad Is Real, And That Is Not A Drill

The first pair of pets are Cat’Thuzad and Catsramas, two lich-themed cats wearing horned skull masks and tiny necromancer cloaks.

Yes, Cat’Thuzad.

That is the kind of name that sounds like it escaped from a guild Discord joke and somehow made it into the actual game. It is ridiculous. It is perfect. It is exactly the sort of battle pet that will make collectors sigh, open the Trading Post, and immediately lose 250 Trader’s Tender while muttering, “fine.”

There is also something extremely Warcraft about turning one of the game’s most iconic undead villains into a small costumed cat. Kel’Thuzad spent years being dramatic, powerful, and terrifying. Now his legacy includes a feline pun.

Honestly, that feels fair.

Uldum Cats Join The Parade

The next two are Amewbis and Mewkahen, both dressed with clear Uldum and Ramkahen inspiration.

Wrapped-up mummy cats are not subtle, but subtlety left the room the moment Cat’Thuzad arrived.

These two are probably going to hit a very specific collector nerve: ancient desert fantasy, tiny pet energy, and names that sound like someone at Blizzard had a very good afternoon. If you have ever built a transmog around Uldum, archaeology vibes, or anything involving golden sand and questionable tomb etiquette, these cats are basically waiting to judge your outfit.

The Kirin Tor Also Got Cats, Because Mages Needed More Confidence

The final two pets are Kirin Tor Cat and Kirin Tor Kitty, both dressed in Kirin Tor-themed regalia.

Because apparently even magical academia needs cats.

These are likely to be especially dangerous for Mage players, Dalaran enjoyers, and anyone who has ever said, “I do not really collect battle pets,” while owning 436 battle pets.

Kirin Tor pets are also a smart little nostalgia button. Dalaran, arcane robes, tiny magical companion, smug cat expression. That is a lot of Warcraft identity packed into one small walking judgment machine.

The Source Still Has A PTR Warning Label

Right now, the six pets are listed as coming from the Trading Post on the Patch 12.1 PTR. Icy Veins notes that the costume theme makes October 2026’s “Costumed Calamity” Trading Post theme look like a likely landing spot.

That said, this is still PTR information.

Some or all of these pets could move before release. They could remain Trading Post rewards. They could possibly end up connected to Hallow’s End if Blizzard decides the seasonal fit is too obvious to ignore.

So the correct collector response is not full panic yet.

It is mild panic with a spreadsheet tab.

Trading Post Pets Are Becoming A Problem In The Best Way

The Trading Post has become one of Warcraft’s most reliable sources of tiny cosmetic chaos. Mounts get the big headlines, transmog gets the loudest debates, but battle pets are where Blizzard can get truly unhinged.

Costume cats are perfect Trading Post material. They are cute, silly, collectible, themed, and easy to understand from one screenshot. That is dangerous. The best collectibles do not need a five-minute explanation. They just make players go, “I need that stupid little thing.”

Cat’Thuzad does that instantly.

Whether these arrive through the Trading Post, Hallow’s End, or some final PTR shuffle, the result is the same: World of Warcraft is getting lich cats, mummy cats, and Kirin Tor cats.

Serious game. Very serious.

Now excuse everyone while they pretend they are saving Trader’s Tender responsibly.
