Patch 12.1 is not fully here yet, but Blizzard has already started pulling players toward the next mess.

The first chapter of the Curse of Ula’tek campaign is now live, giving players an early story bridge into Patch 12.1 before the update properly lands. Because apparently waiting calmly for the next patch was too peaceful for Azeroth.

According to Wowhead’s campaign breakdown, Chapter 1 is titled Legacy of the Amani and begins with the quest Hagar’s Invitation in the center of Silvermoon City.

Legacy Of The Amani Starts In Silvermoon

The campaign begins in Silvermoon City, which makes sense given Patch 12.1’s heavy Amani, troll, and Quel’Thalas setup.

This is not just random pre-patch filler. Blizzard is clearly laying track for the larger Curse of Ula’tek story, pulling players back into blood elf and Amani tension before everyone gets dragged toward the Coiled Isle.

And honestly, that is a pretty good place to start.

Warcraft lore is at its best when old grudges are not magically solved, but forced into the same room because something worse has started knocking on the door.

You Get A Mount And A Pet

The good news: this early campaign chapter is not just story homework.

Players can earn the Dusk Grimlynx mount from an early quest, and the Akiki pet from completing the full chapter. That is the correct way to make people care about a campaign chain. Lore is nice. A mount and a pet make it feel like Blizzard brought snacks.

There are also two new cutscenes attached to the quest chain, according to Wowhead, so players who care about the story setup have a real reason to pay attention instead of smashing through dialogue like a Goblin late for auction house taxes.

This Looks Like Patch 12.1 Preparation

The most important detail is that this chapter appears to matter for the road into Patch 12.1.

Wowhead notes that on the PTR, players must complete Chapters 1 and 2 to unlock the new Coiled Isle zone. That zone is expected to include new activities, The Venomous Abyss raid, a new dungeon, and the new Delve boss.

So yes, this may be one of those “you should probably do it now” quest chains.

Not because it is difficult. Not because it will take your entire evening. But because future-you may appreciate not logging in on patch day and discovering there is a campaign prerequisite standing between you and the shiny new chaos.

Drip-Fed Story Can Be Annoying, But This One Has A Point

There is always a little friction when Blizzard releases story content before the patch it belongs to.

Some players like the buildup. Others see it as another login chore wearing a lore hat. Both reactions are fair.

But in this case, the early release makes sense. Curse of Ula’tek is clearly leaning on older Amani history, Silvermoon politics, and the growing threat around the Coiled Isle. Dropping Chapter 1 early gives the story room to breathe instead of cramming every explanation into launch week.

It also gives players something useful to do now: earn the mount, grab the pet, watch the cutscenes, and get prepared for the next patch.

Blizzard Is Setting The Hook Early

Chapter 1 of Curse of Ula’tek feels like Blizzard placing the first trap before Patch 12.1 fully arrives.

It starts in Silvermoon. It pulls Amani history back into focus. It rewards players with cosmetics. And it may help unlock the next major zone when the patch goes live.

That is a solid setup.

Now we just have to see whether the rest of the campaign pays it off, or whether Azeroth is once again about to learn that ancient sealed threats are usually sealed for a reason.
