World of Warcraft is once again placing one of its most attractive Delve rewards behind the mode’s hardest solo challenge.

In Midnight Season 2, players who defeat Azta’rec alone on Tier ?? difficulty will earn the Apophic Soul Crusher mount.

No other players can be in the party.

No friendly carry can step in when the venom begins covering the room.

Just you, Valeera and a boss apparently designed by someone who believed ordinary solo content needed more poison, memory games and lethal interrupt checks.

The Apophic Soul Crusher Requires a Solo Tier ?? Kill

The mount is tied to the achievement Let Me Solo Him: Azta’rec.

To complete it, players must defeat Azta’rec inside his lair on Tier ?? difficulty without any other players in the party before the next Delve season begins.

The reward is the Apophic Soul Crusher, a venom-themed mount matching the visual identity of Curse of Ula’tek.

Importantly, the achievement is seasonal.

Players will have the full duration of Season 2 to earn the mount, but the opportunity will not remain available forever.

That makes it similar to Season 1’s Arcanovoid Construct, which required players to solo Nullaeus on the hardest Delve difficulty.

Blizzard has clearly decided that defeating a seasonal Nemesis alone should remain one of Delves’ signature prestige challenges.

Tier ?? Must Be Unlocked First

Players cannot simply walk into Venomfall Deeps on the first day and select the hardest version.

Tier ? unlocks after completing a Tier 7 Delve with at least one life remaining during Season 2.

Tier ?? requires a successful Tier 10 Delve with at least one life remaining.

That creates a progression path before the Nemesis attempt even begins.

Players must first gear their characters, advance through ordinary Delves and prove they can clear the higher tiers without burning through every available life.

Only then does Azta’rec open the door to the version where the reward becomes interesting and the mechanics become considerably less forgiving.

Azta’rec Is More Than a Large Health Bar

The Season 2 Nemesis encounter takes place inside Venomfall Deeps on the Coiled Isle.

Azta’rec uses several dangerous abilities during the normal phases.

Noxious Bile fires a frontal cone that leaves poison pools behind. Void Toxin applies a damaging debuff and reduces Shadow damage dealt. Soul Extinction is a lethal cast that must be interrupted.

Tank specialisations also need to handle Serpent’s Strike, a heavy physical attack that demands a defensive cooldown.

Missing one important interrupt can end the attempt.

Standing in the wrong place can slowly fill the arena with poison.

So far, fairly standard high-end solo content.

Then the boss starts testing your short-term memory.

The Intermission Is Basically Poisonous Simon Says

At 90%, 60% and 30% health, Azta’rec moves to the centre of the arena and begins Sermon of Ula’tek.

The room is divided into four quadrants.

During the Tier ?? version, the encounter reveals a sequence of five safe areas while the remaining sections fill with deadly venom.

Players must remember that sequence.

Azta’rec then repeats the same pattern without displaying the safe locations again.

Yes, the hardest solo Delve boss in Season 2 expects players to complete a memory game while also dealing damage, avoiding poison and preparing for lethal casts.

Apparently the true enemy of Azeroth is forgetting whether Circle came before Diamond.

An Echo Attacks During the Memory Test

Tier ?? adds another complication.

At the beginning of each intermission, Azta’rec summons an Echo of himself.

The Echo uses many of the same dangerous abilities as the boss and should ideally be killed before the intermission ends.

If it survives, players may be forced to manage multiple lethal casts, toxins and frontal attacks once Azta’rec returns to normal combat.

That creates an important damage check inside what would otherwise be a movement and memory mechanic.

Players cannot simply focus on watching the floor.

They must kill the Echo quickly, continue handling interrupts and still remember the five-part safe-zone pattern.

This is less “Simon Says” and more “Simon Says while someone attempts to murder you.”

Valeera’s Setup Will Matter

Valeera remains the companion for Midnight Delves and can be configured to cover weaknesses in a character’s toolkit.

Players without reliable self-healing or poison removal may want her in a healing role, particularly because Void Toxin needs to be interrupted or dispelled.

Healers may instead prefer Valeera as damage support so she can contribute another interrupt and help kill the Echoes during intermissions.

There will not be one perfect setup for every class.

A tank with strong sustain may value extra damage. A fragile damage dealer may need healing support. A class lacking a convenient dispel may depend heavily on Valeera handling the toxin.

That flexibility is one of Delves’ strengths.

It also means the difficulty of the same boss can vary considerably depending on which class walks through the door.

The Mount Is Not the Only Seasonal Reward

Players who defeat Azta’rec on the standard Nemesis difficulty earn the Apophic Patagia cosmetic cloak through the My Venomous Nemesis achievement.

Completing the Tier ?? encounter awards the Poisonous title.

The solo Tier ?? kill adds the Apophic Soul Crusher mount.

There is also a first-week challenge.

Players who defeat Azta’rec alone on Tier ?? during the first week of Season 2 earn the title Fabled Vanquisher of Azta’rec.

That title replaces the more restrictive Season 1 race, where only a limited number of characters per region could enter the Delve Hall of Fame.

For Season 2, the requirement is based on completing the challenge during the opening week rather than finishing among the first several thousand players.

Still brutal.

Just less dependent on whether your region filled the leaderboard while you were asleep.

The Mount Gives Solo Players a Real Prestige Goal

Delves were introduced as flexible, small-scale content that could be completed alone or with a group.

The seasonal Nemesis encounters give the mode something more ambitious.

They provide a visible reward proving that a player completed one of WoW’s hardest solo PvE encounters while it was current.

That matters because most prestigious PvE rewards traditionally come from organised group content.

Mythic raids reward mounts and titles. Mythic+ provides seasonal rating rewards. High-end Delves now offer solo players their own difficult target.

The Apophic Soul Crusher is not being handed out for completing weekly chores.

It asks players to understand their class, optimise Valeera, manage defensive cooldowns and survive a fight where several mistakes are immediately fatal.

Some Classes Will Inevitably Have an Easier Time

Role-agnostic content does not mean every specialisation experiences identical difficulty.

Classes with strong self-healing, short interrupts, immunities and reliable burst damage will naturally have advantages.

Specs with limited sustain or awkward interrupt tools may depend much more heavily on Valeera and carefully selected Delve powers.

Tank specialisations can survive mistakes more easily but must deal with Serpent’s Strike and may struggle to kill Echoes quickly enough.

Healers can recover from damage but may face a longer fight with more opportunities for something to go wrong.

DPS characters may have the fastest kills while also discovering that their health bar has very strong opinions about missed mechanics.

Blizzard will need to watch class completion rates carefully.

A hard solo challenge is good.

A challenge where one class arrives with six answers and another arrives with optimism is less impressive.

The First-Week Title Is for the Truly Unwell

Most players chasing the mount can wait.

They can improve their gear, level Valeera, learn the encounter and return after additional tuning or class buffs.

The Fabled Vanquisher title offers none of that comfort.

It requires a solo Tier ?? kill during the first week of Season 2.

That means unlocking the highest difficulty, preparing the character and defeating Azta’rec before the first weekly reset closes the opportunity.

The title is deliberately aimed at players who want the hardest version of the challenge before gear inflation and accumulated Delve upgrades make it more manageable.

The mount proves you killed Azta’rec alone.

The title proves you did it before the encounter had time to become emotionally reasonable.

Season 2 Is Giving Delves a Clear Endgame Target

Season 2 Delves will provide ordinary gear progression, weekly activities and new environments.

Azta’rec gives the system a destination.

Players can spend the season improving their character specifically to overcome one difficult solo encounter and earn a reward that will remain visible long after the season ends.

That is stronger motivation than another upgrade currency or temporary item-level increase.

The Apophic Soul Crusher gives solo-focused players something concrete to chase, while the first-week title creates an optional race for the most dedicated.

Blizzard has not hidden the best reward behind random luck.

It has hidden it behind poison, lethal casts, damage checks and a five-step memory test.

Honestly, that may be worse.

Start Preparing Before Season 2

Players interested in the mount should begin by identifying the tools their class can use for interrupts, dispels, burst windows and emergency healing.

Once Season 2 begins, Valeera’s role and available Delve powers will need to complement those tools.

The encounter will likely receive additional tuning after more players reach Tier ??, so early strategies and damage values may change.

The achievement requirement is not expected to change:

Defeat Azta’rec alone on the hardest Delve difficulty before Season 2 ends.

Do that, and the Apophic Soul Crusher is yours.

Forget the safe quadrant during poisonous Simon Says, and Azta’rec gets another attempt at crushing your soul first.
