The numbers come from Icy Veins’ breakdown of the latest Warcraft Logs data, where Balance is one of the clearest movers of Week 3. At the top end of Heroic, Marksmanship Hunter has also climbed into first place, pushing Arcane Mage down, while Demonology and Arms Warrior remain firmly among the leaders. Balance then arrives in fifth after spending the previous week considerably further down the table.
Balance Did Not Get Here Completely by Accident
The timing matters. Blizzard gave Balance Druid a 4% increase to all ability damage on September 1, part of the same broad Season 2 tuning cycle that has been moving specs around since The Venomous Abyss opened. We have been following that process since Patch 12.1 started tuning practically every class using raid-test data, and Balance was already among the specializations Blizzard clearly believed needed help.
A flat 4% buff alone does not normally explain an eleven-position teleportation spell, of course. Week 3 is also where gearing begins to settle, more players acquire powerful raid pieces, tier bonuses become common and the number of available logs grows substantially. We looked at exactly why that matters in our earlier examination of Midnight Season 2’s increasingly important tier sets. Early raid rankings are photographs of a moving train. By Week 3, at least somebody has started focusing the camera.
We Have Seen This Movie Before
There is also something wonderfully familiar about this. Just last week, Demonology Warlock exploded upward by 18 places in the raid rankings after beginning Season 2 looking remarkably ordinary. Demonology has not disappeared again. It remains one of the strongest raid specs and currently leads the much smaller Mythic dataset.
Balance now appears to be following the same basic script, although with feathers.
The distinction between Heroic and Mythic is worth watching closely. Heroic currently has vastly more logged parses, so its rankings are much more stable. Mythic participation is still comparatively small because The Venomous Abyss remains young and difficult. We have already seen just how demanding the raid can be through Liquid’s brutal Race to World First victory over Ula’tek, which came after two separate bosses pushed the guild beyond 300 pulls.
Balance Is Looking Like a Proper Raid Spec Again
The encouraging part is that Balance is not only appearing near the top in one extremely selective chart. At all Heroic percentiles, the spec has also climbed eight positions into seventh place. That gives the improvement considerably more weight. This is not simply five Moonkins with extraordinary gear and a suspicious relationship with Warcraft Logs.
It is also an interesting reversal from what we saw during Season 1. In our look at the enormous difference between spec popularity and actual performance, Balance was one of the clearest examples of raid improvements failing to translate neatly into Mythic+. The specialization could perform very well under raid conditions while still struggling to create the same impression in dungeons.
Season 2 is making the raid half of that identity considerably harder to ignore.
Balance is now fifth among high-end Heroic parses, seventh across all Heroic players and second in the current Mythic overall rankings. Those positions will move as more guilds progress, gear improves and Blizzard inevitably decides that at least one number somewhere has become unacceptable.
But for the moment, the chickens are doing damage.
A lot of damage.
