World of Warcraft players reaching Rank 10 with Zul’jarra’s Forces can finally begin working toward the Spirit of Tok’jara, but the green spectral eagle is not simply handed over with the Renown reward. Instead, Rank 10 unlocks a separate quest chain inside the Vaults of Atal’Utek, and Blizzard has placed the mount at the end of six daily quests. That means even if you reach the required Renown today, Spirit of Tok’jara still takes a minimum of six days to obtain.

The extra wait is worth knowing about because Zul’jarra’s Forces already has several mounts scattered across its progression. We previously covered how the new Zul’jarra Contract became particularly valuable for players pushing the faction’s Renown rewards, including Spirit of Tok’jara, Indigo Coiled Horror and Violet-Backed Skyfang. Rank 10 gets you through the first gate. It does not get the bird into your mount journal just yet.

Reach Rank 10 With Zul’jarra’s Forces First

The first requirement is straightforward: reach Renown Rank 10 with Zul’jarra’s Forces. The faction is central to Patch 12.1’s Coiled Isle progression, with reputation coming from the same activities players are already doing around the island and inside the Vaults. If you are still working toward Rank 10, combining Renown farming with other objectives makes considerably more sense than treating it as a separate grind. Our look at the enormous 300-Curse-Surge achievement already showed how much of Patch 12.1’s outdoor content overlaps with Zul’jarra progression.

Once Rank 10 is reached, head into the Vaults of Atal’Utek and find Du’gal at the Amani Foothold. The useful coordinate is approximately:

/way #2509 50.48 63.86

Du’gal begins the six-part sequence. Only one quest in the chain is available per day, so there is no way to sit down and complete all six in one evening, regardless of how enthusiastically you feel about spectral birds.

The Spirit of Tok’jara Quest Chain Takes Six Days

The six quests arrive in a fixed sequence:

  1. Day 1 — Ancestral Gems
  2. Day 2 — Dark Charms
  3. Day 3 — A Balance Paid in Blood
  4. Day 4 — Wading In
  5. Day 5 — Cursed Existence
  6. Day 6 — The Innocent Essence

The final quest, The Innocent Essence, awards Spirit of Tok’jara. According to current live testing of the complete quest chain, the objectives generally send players into more dangerous sections of the Vaults to collect items or kill enemies. The quests recommend three players, although most can reportedly be completed while in a raid group.

If you have already spent time unlocking the four hidden Altar of Corrosion powers inside the Vaults, much of the terrain will be familiar. That guide also covers movement upgrades such as Spirit Walk and Spectral Shipping, which can make repeated trips through Atal’Utek considerably less irritating. Patch 12.1 has discovered several ways to make players visit the same poisoned underground complex. At least some of them eventually make travelling through it easier.

What Each Daily Quest Asks You to Do

Ancestral Gems sends you looking for gem boxes around the Underbelly and nearby crypts. Dark Charms involves searching for objects around the Venom Pits and adjoining areas. A Balance Paid in Blood is primarily a large kill quest, making it particularly suitable for completing alongside other Vault activities. Wading In involves searching around the edges of its objective area, while Cursed Existence returns to killing enemies. On the sixth day, The Innocent Essence finishes the story and places the mount in your collection.

This is therefore not a difficult mount chain in the traditional sense. There is no extremely rare drop and no puzzle requiring seven friends, three toys from 2014 and an understanding of hexadecimal arithmetic. The real restriction is simply time.

Du’gal Keeps Giving Daily Quests After You Get the Mount

Interestingly, Du’gal does not become useless once Spirit of Tok’jara is unlocked. After completing the six-day chain, he continues offering versions of these Vault objectives as daily quests, with 200 Corrosive Coin among the rewards. That gives players another reason to continue visiting Atal’Utek even after the mount is secured.

Corrosive Coin already feeds deeply into Vault progression. It is used with the Altar of Corrosion and connects with other collector goals, including the Fully Corroded achievement and its path toward the Venomous Coiler mount. The Vaults are therefore developing into one of Patch 12.1’s densest collection hubs rather than a place you abandon once one particular reward is finished.

Patch 12.1 Has Been Very Good to Mount Collectors

Spirit of Tok’jara also joins an unusually large selection of venomous, spectral and generally unreasonable creatures added with Curse of Ula’tek. We highlighted the new three-headed Writhe mounts before the patch launched, while Patch 12.1’s Venomfang serpents somehow managed to make flying snakes look perfectly normal. Even classic Wind Serpents finally became rideable through the new Skyfang mount family.

That fits the larger design of Patch 12.1’s enormous Coiled Isle content loop. Nearly every activity seems to feed another currency, achievement, mount or reputation bar.

Spirit of Tok’jara is at least refreshingly predictable.

Reach Rank 10.

Visit Du’gal for six days.

Receive ghost bird.

World of Warcraft has asked considerably worse things for a mount.
