Archimonde was down for 3 days straight so they could kick players off the server, even then, archimonde had the first level 60, first epic mount and first to down onyxia.

Archimonde was determined to be THE realm for PVP. Players from other games like EQ decided on this realm because it was the first alphabetically. What happened is Everybody rolled on this realm... because it was the first alphabetically. Server crashed and burned and Blizzard was able to recover the players, but not the guilds. Archimonde was a freaking awesome server, but no where as good as it should have been had Blizzard been able to afford the equipment to manage it (which would have been bummfuckingly expensive at the time)
