Blizzard has taken one of the longest-running Evoker quality-of-life requests and finally pushed it into the 12.0.5 PTR. In the latest PTR development notes, Blizzard confirmed Battle Visage, a toggleable ability that lets Evokers stay in Visage form unless they cast spells that specifically require their Dracthyr body.

That may sound small on paper, but for a lot of Dracthyr players, it really is not. This is Blizzard officially moving toward a system where Evokers can spend far more time in Visage form without constantly being forced back into dragon form for half their toolkit. In the original PTR notes, Blizzard said Battle Visage was intended to work like Chosen Identity, automatically switching the character into Dracthyr form only for spells that need a “draconic physique,” before switching them back after the cast. Blizzard also warned at the time that the feature was not ready for testing yet because of camera-positioning issues caused by rapid form changes.

Blizzard has now spelled out exactly how it works

The newer PTR update from March 25 gives a much clearer picture. Blizzard says Battle Visage is now a toggled ability, and while it is active, players automatically stay in Visage form unless they cast a defined list of abilities such as Deep Breath, Fire Breath, Eternity Surge, Dream Breath, Hover, Rescue, Zephyr, Verdant Embrace, or Soar. Blizzard also says many abilities that previously forced a full shift now have adjusted visuals for Visage form instead.

That is the part likely to matter most in practice. The feature is not just “you can roleplay in Visage more often now.” Blizzard is actively trimming down how many routine actions force a full form swap, which should make Evoker gameplay feel less visually jerky for players who prefer the humanoid look. Blizzard also says Battle Visage applies a camera height override to help avoid the rapid camera snapping that came with quick form changes, although the studio stresses those camera adjustments are still work in progress.

PTR reaction was instant

It also did not take long for players to start picking the system apart. The official 12.0.5 PTR forum quickly filled with multiple Battle Visage feedback threads by March 26, including debates over whether too many spells still force a Dracthyr shift and whether Blizzard is framing a racial issue like it is class-specific. That does not prove universal praise or backlash, but it does suggest Battle Visage immediately became one of the louder talking points on this PTR cycle.

And honestly, that tracks. Battle Visage is exactly the kind of change players have asked for over and over: not flashy, not expansion-selling, just overdue.
