Its next major arrival is a round raccoon from Seattle named Jimothy.
Blizzard has officially confirmed that its in-game version of the viral animal is “coming soon to Azeroth,” sharing footage of the creature wandering through World of Warcraft.
There is no release date yet.
Blizzard has also not confirmed whether Jimothy will be a battle pet, an NPC, a quest reward or something considerably stranger.
For now, we only know that he is coming.
Honestly, that is already enough.
Blizzard Says Jimothy Is Coming Soon
The official Warcraft account shared the announcement with a simple message:
“You asked, Jimothy answered. Coming soon to Azeroth.”
The accompanying footage shows a recognisable in-game raccoon model with Jimothy’s unusual hunched shape.
That turns an earlier piece of social-media fan service into an actual content teaser.
Blizzard is no longer merely showing what Jimothy might look like inside World of Warcraft.
The company is saying that some version of him will be added to the game.
Exactly how remains unknown.
Jimothy Became an Internet Celebrity Almost Overnight
Jimothy is a real raccoon seen wandering around Seattle with an unusual appearance and distinctive way of moving.
Videos and photographs of the animal spread rapidly online, where people became attached to his round body, determined little walk and general expression of someone arriving late to a meeting he did not want to attend.
Online discussion has suggested that his posture may be related to a physical condition, but there does not appear to be a confirmed public veterinary diagnosis.
That uncertainty has not stopped Jimothy from becoming one of the internet’s latest animal celebrities.
Gaming companies quickly joined the trend with artwork, references and mock in-game appearances.
World of Warcraft was among them, initially sharing its own version of Jimothy before confirming that he would actually come to Azeroth.
He Will Probably Be a Battle Pet, but Blizzard Has Not Said So
The most obvious implementation would be a battle pet.
WoW already contains a huge collection of small animals, magical creatures, mechanical companions and things that probably should not be allowed near children.
A raccoon fits naturally into that system.
Players could summon Jimothy as a companion, level him through pet battles and presumably watch him defeat creatures with far more impressive résumés.
That is still speculation.
Blizzard’s announcement does not use the words “battle pet,” and the short video does not explain how players will obtain or interact with him.
He could appear as a non-player character in a city or quest.
He could become a Housing visitor or decoration-related feature.
Blizzard could even create a small event around him.
World of Warcraft has turned less sensible ideas into multi-stage questlines.
The Acquisition Method Will Matter
The cheerful announcement could become slightly less charming depending on how Jimothy is distributed.
If he is earned through a simple quest or found naturally in the world, the addition will feel like a harmless community tribute.
If he arrives as an expensive store pet, players may understandably view the situation differently.
Blizzard has previously sold pets through the Battle.net Shop, sometimes connecting selected purchases to charitable fundraising.
A charity component would make sense here, particularly if it supported wildlife rehabilitation or animal welfare.
Nothing like that has been announced.
Until Blizzard provides details, players should avoid assuming that Jimothy will be free, paid or attached to a specific event.
We know the raccoon is coming.
We do not know whether he comes with a receipt.
WoW Has Always Made Room for Internet Nonsense
World of Warcraft has never been afraid to absorb jokes, memes and pieces of wider internet culture.
Azeroth contains references to films, television, music, old message-board jokes and community moments that would make absolutely no sense to anyone discovering them several years later.
Some age badly.
Others become part of the game’s personality.
Jimothy works because he does not need to carry an entire content update.
He is a small, funny creature appearing inside a world that regularly becomes buried under discussions about damage coefficients, upgrade currencies and whether a particular dungeon timer is mathematically insulting.
Not every addition needs to advance the Worldsoul Saga.
Sometimes Azeroth can simply have a raccoon.
Blizzard Moved Surprisingly Fast
The speed of the announcement is notable.
Jimothy became widely viral, the Warcraft social team produced an in-game interpretation, and Blizzard then confirmed his arrival within a remarkably short period.
Game development usually moves slowly.
Even small cosmetic additions can require modelling, animation, implementation, testing and approval across several teams.
That suggests Blizzard either moved extremely quickly or found a practical way to adapt an existing raccoon-like model.
The final version may therefore be a relatively small addition rather than a fully bespoke feature.
That would be completely fine.
Jimothy does not require a raid cinematic.
Although watching him defeat Ula’tek would improve several aspects of the current narrative.
There Is a Fine Line Between Tribute and Brand Chasing
Major companies attaching themselves to viral animals is not new.
Once something becomes popular enough, social-media teams appear from every direction carrying illustrations, jokes and suspiciously fast approval processes.
That can feel cynical.
It can also be harmless fun when the adaptation fits the game and does not exploit the subject behind it.
Jimothy fits WoW’s battle-pet and companion culture naturally.
The community was already asking Blizzard to add him, and the company responded with something players genuinely seemed to want.
The deciding factor will be the final implementation.
A small, accessible tribute would be charming.
A heavily monetised bundle called the Jimothy Ultimate Celebration Pack would perhaps test the limits of everyone’s affection.
Azeroth Could Use More Small Joyful Additions
Recent WoW discussion has been dominated by Patch 12.1 tuning, Season 2 gearing, addon restrictions, healer balance and rewards that are disappearing before Blizzard has provided a clear end date.
Those topics matter.
They are also exhausting.
Jimothy is the opposite.
He does not need a simulation, a tier list or a thirty-minute video explaining why his secondary-stat distribution is secretly ruining Mythic+.
He is a raccoon with an unusual walk who became beloved online and is now being placed inside Azeroth.
Blizzard still needs to tell us when he arrives and how players can obtain him.
Until then, World of Warcraft’s most anticipated new character may not be an ancient cosmic entity or legendary returning hero.
It may be a small Seattle raccoon who looks like he has already had enough of the Worldsoul Saga.
