Blizzard has given Decor Duel a last-minute rescue package.

Illusionary Coin rewards have been doubled. Seekers regenerate energy 20% more slowly. Hiders are no longer automatically revealed during the final 30 seconds, and they no longer attract flies for staying in one place.

In other words, World of Warcraft’s prop-hunt mode is suddenly more rewarding and considerably less hostile to the people actually trying to hide.

It is a strong set of improvements.

It is also arriving after the mode has already struggled to keep players queueing.

Illusionary Coin Rewards Have Been Doubled

The clearest change is a 100% increase to Illusionary Coin rewards.

Players now earn twice as much currency from Decor Duel, making it significantly faster to purchase the mode’s housing decorations, toys, weapon appearances and other rewards.

That should immediately make the remaining grind less painful.

Decor Duel has always had a decent collection of cosmetic rewards attached to it, but the currency rate made the activity feel repetitive once the novelty of pretending to be a chair wore off.

Doubling the rewards gives players a much better reason to return, especially anyone still trying to finish the collection before the mode becomes unavailable with Patch 12.1.

Nothing improves a struggling activity quite like admitting players should have been paid twice as much all along.

Seekers Now Regenerate Energy 20% More Slowly

Blizzard has also reduced the rate at which seekers gain energy by 20%.

Seeker abilities use energy to test suspicious objects, expose illusions and track down hiding players.

Slower regeneration means seekers must be more selective about where and when they use those abilities.

Previously, the role could encourage players to spam detection tools across the environment until something reacted.

That is effective, but it is not particularly clever.

The new rate should reward observation and map knowledge instead of turning each round into several heavily armed investigators attacking every innocent table in Silvermoon.

Seekers still have the tools needed to uncover hiders. They will simply have fewer opportunities to waste those tools without consequences.

Hiders Are No Longer Exposed During the Final 30 Seconds

The final 30 seconds of a Decor Duel round no longer automatically reveal every remaining hider.

This may be the most important gameplay change in the entire hotfix.

A prop-hunt mode should reward someone who finds a believable hiding place and survives the full round.

Automatically exposing them near the end undermined that fantasy.

A player could hide successfully for most of the match, only for the game itself to point them out because the seekers were running out of time.

That created artificial drama, but it also turned the final moments into a forced chase rather than a genuine test of hiding and detection.

Removing the reveal gives hiders a fairer chance to win by doing exactly what the mode asks them to do.

Hide.

The Flies Are Finally Gone

Hiders will also stop attracting flies after remaining in the same position for too long.

The original mechanic existed to discourage players from finding one strong location and refusing to move.

The problem is that remaining still is generally considered a fairly important part of hiding.

Players disguised as furniture were effectively punished for behaving like furniture.

The flies made stationary hiders easier to identify, forcing them to move even when they had found a convincing spot.

That created more action, but it weakened the core prop-hunt gameplay. The best hiding place was never truly safe because the game would eventually surround it with a cloud of biological evidence.

Removing the flies makes patience and positioning more valuable.

It also means a suspiciously placed lamp can finally remain a suspiciously placed lamp without attracting half of Silvermoon’s insect population.

These Changes Strongly Favor Hiders

Every gameplay adjustment in this hotfix makes life easier for the hiding team.

Seekers receive energy more slowly. The automatic final reveal is gone. Stationary props no longer attract flies.

That suggests Blizzard believed the balance had shifted too far toward seekers.

It also points to a broader issue with the mode.

Prop hunt works best when both roles feel clever. Hiders should feel rewarded for choosing believable objects and strong positions. Seekers should feel rewarded for noticing details that do not belong.

If detection abilities, automatic reveals and visual clues do too much of the work, seekers stop investigating and begin running a scripted sweep of the map.

The new version should create more room for actual mind games.

The Rescue Package May Have Arrived Too Late

The awkward part is the timing.

Decor Duel is expected to become unavailable when Patch 12.1 launches.

That means Blizzard is finally improving the rewards and addressing several of the mode’s most obvious problems shortly before removing it from the active game.

Players have also reported much longer queues than the mode enjoyed earlier in the season, suggesting participation has already fallen sharply.

The reasons are not difficult to understand.

Decor Duel launched with limited variety, a single core environment and a reward structure that eventually left dedicated players with little reason to continue.

Once players had collected what they wanted, there was not enough variation to keep the mode alive purely through gameplay.

The new hotfix makes each match fairer and more rewarding, but it cannot create new maps, disguises or long-term progression by itself.

Decor Duel Deserved This Version at Launch

The changes are good.

Double currency respects players’ time. Slower seeker energy reduces ability spam. Removing the final reveal and the fly mechanic allows hiders to win through actual hiding.

This sounds much closer to the version of Decor Duel that should have launched in the first place.

Whether it is enough to revive the queues before Patch 12.1 remains uncertain.

At the very least, players still chasing the rewards now have a much better opportunity to finish the grind.

And anyone disguising themselves as an unreasonably placed bench can finally sit completely still without the game summoning a swarm of witnesses.
