Blizzard has now officially confirmed that World of Warcraft Patch 12.1: Curse of Ula’tek will launch on August 11 in North America.
For European players, the update will arrive following the regional reset on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
Midnight Season 2 will begin one week later, on August 18 in North America and August 19 in Europe.
So yes, the suspiciously specific PTR calendar entry was exactly as suspicious as it looked.
The PTR Calendar Got the Date Right
Before Blizzard’s announcement, the strongest release-date clue came from Tidebound Grotto appearing on the PTR calendar with an August 18 opening date.
WoW seasons generally begin one week after their associated content update.
That immediately pointed toward an August 11 North American patch launch and an August 12 European release.
The prediction also matched Blizzard’s recent content cadence and Patch 12.1 reaching release candidate status.
Blizzard has now removed the remaining uncertainty.
Patch 12.1 goes live August 11, with Season 2 following on August 18.
Patch 12.1 Arrives Before Season 2
Curse of Ula’tek will launch in two stages.
The first week introduces the main content update, including the Coiled Isle, new campaign chapters, additional Housing features and the Altar of Fangs dungeon on its initial difficulties.
The competitive seasonal content will not begin immediately.
Players will have one week to explore the new zone, complete introductory quests and prepare characters before Midnight Season 2 begins.
That second launch brings the Venomous Abyss raid, the new Mythic+ rotation, the next PvP season and updated seasonal progression.
It is Blizzard’s familiar approach: give everyone a week to enjoy the story before Mythic+ players turn the island into a spreadsheet.
The Venomous Abyss Opens August 18
The main Season 2 raid is the Venomous Abyss, an eight-boss instance built around the corruption spreading through the Coiled Isle.
Ula’tek waits at the end as the raid’s final encounter.
The raid will open alongside Season 2 on August 18 in North America and August 19 in Europe.
Tidebound Grotto, the new raid lair, is also scheduled to become available with the seasonal launch.
Mythic+ players will receive a refreshed dungeon pool containing both newer instances and returning dungeons from previous expansions.
Season 1 Now Has a Firm Deadline
The confirmation also gives players a final deadline for unfinished Season 1 goals.
Anyone still chasing Mythic+ rating, raid achievements, seasonal PvP rewards or limited-time progression now knows exactly how much time remains.
Patch 12.1 arrives in Europe on August 12.
Season 2 begins one week later on August 19.
That leaves less than two weeks from Blizzard’s confirmation for players to finish their remaining Season 1 business.
There is still time.
There is considerably less time than there was before Blizzard finally admitted what the PTR calendar had already told everyone.
The Speculation Is Over
Until now, August 12 was the strongest likely European release date rather than an official one.
That distinction mattered.
PTR entries can change, release candidate builds can be delayed and apparently obvious schedules can still fall apart before launch.
This time, every clue lined up correctly.
Curse of Ula’tek launches on August 11 in North America and August 12 in Europe.
Midnight Season 2 follows on August 18 and 19.
The PTR calendar can now return to its normal job of reminding players that the Darkmoon Faire begins five minutes after they stop caring about it.
