Tidebound Grotto Is Scheduled for August 18
Tidebound Grotto is the new single-boss raid lair coming with Midnight Season 2.
Players inspecting the Patch 12.1 PTR calendar found the activity scheduled to open on August 18 in the North American region.
Major WoW seasons normally begin one week after the content patch itself.
If that pattern holds, Patch 12.1 would release on August 11 in North America and August 12 in Europe.
The date has not appeared in an official Blizzard release announcement, but it now has a visible in-game calendar event sitting exactly where the expected Season 2 launch should be.
The calendar may not technically be speaking.
It is certainly pointing very aggressively.
The Date Already Matched Blizzard’s Patch Cadence
August 11 was already the leading prediction before the Tidebound Grotto entry appeared.
Blizzard has followed a relatively consistent eight-week content cadence throughout Midnight.
Patch 12.0.5 launched on April 21, while Patch 12.0.7 followed on June 16.
Another eight-week gap lands directly on August 11.
The current Turbulent Timeways schedule also supports a mid-August transition, adding another piece to the same increasingly crowded pile of evidence.
None of these clues would be conclusive on their own.
Together, they look less like coincidence and more like Blizzard leaving the release plan uncovered on the table.
Patch 12.1 Has Reached Release Candidate Status
The latest PTR build has also been marked as a release candidate.
That label normally indicates that a patch has entered the final stages of testing and is approaching its live release.
Release candidate status does not guarantee that development is finished. Blizzard can still deploy additional builds, balance changes and bug fixes before launch.
It does mean Patch 12.1 is no longer behaving like a distant update.
It is behaving like something Blizzard expects players to install very soon.
The combination of release candidate status and the August 18 Season 2 calendar entry gives the August 11 and 12 dates significantly more weight than a simple cadence prediction.
Season 2 Would Begin One Week Later
Under the expected schedule, Patch 12.1 would go live first and give players one week to explore its campaign content, systems and class changes.
Midnight Season 2 would then begin on August 18 in North America and August 19 in Europe.
That should include the new raid progression, refreshed Mythic+ season, updated Delves and the broader seasonal reward structure.
The one-week gap is standard WoW practice.
It allows the story and open-world portions of a patch to launch before everyone immediately vanishes into dungeons and begins arguing over tank tier lists.

Patch 12.1: Curse of Ula’tek is the first major content patch of Midnight.

Season 2 will reshape gearing, class rankings and endgame progression across the entire expansion.
Players planning to finish Season 1 achievements or collect rewards that disappear with the season should therefore treat mid-August as the working deadline, even while waiting for Blizzard’s formal confirmation.
Blizzard Could Still Move the Date
PTR calendars are useful evidence, but they are not contracts.
Blizzard can change calendar entries, delay activities or adjust the rollout if testing reveals serious problems.
The company has not yet published an official announcement naming August 11 or August 12 as the Patch 12.1 release date.
Any headline claiming the date is fully confirmed would therefore be moving faster than the available evidence.
The responsible conclusion is simpler.
August 12 is now the strongest likely European release date for Patch 12.1.
It matches the eight-week cadence, the release candidate build and the newly visible Tidebound Grotto schedule.
Blizzard still needs to say it.
The PTR calendar has simply become tired of waiting.
