World of Warcraft’s Decor Duel is about to disappear.
The hide-and-seek activity closes when Patch 12.1: The Curse of Ula’tek launches during the week of August 11.
Blizzard has confirmed that its housing decorations will remain available after the event ends.
The future of its mount, toys and weapon appearances is considerably less certain.
Players interested in those rewards should spend their Illusionary Coins before Patch 12.1 removes the activity.
There is no advantage to finishing the event with a beautifully organised pile of obsolete currency.
Decor Duel Ends With Patch 12.1
Decor Duel was introduced in Patch 12.0.5 as a casual team-based activity in Silvermoon City.
One team disguises itself as ordinary objects while the opposing Seekers attempt to find and dispel them.
Each match allows both teams to hide and seek before the game determines a winner.
The activity will no longer be available once Patch 12.1 launches.
For North American players, the update is expected during the August 11 reset.
European realms receive the patch during the August 12 reset.
That leaves less than a week to earn and spend the event’s Illusionary Coins.
Buy the Mount First
The most important reward is Magister’s Spell Bee Comb.
The mount costs 500 Illusionary Coins from Gamesmaster Fleurian in Falconwing Square.
Blizzard has not confirmed that the mount will remain available once Decor Duel ends.
That makes it the safest first purchase for collectors.
Housing decorations are confirmed to survive the transition.
The mount is not.
A missing chair can be purchased later.
A magical bee disappearing from the vendor is a much more irritating entry in the collection journal.
The Weapon Appearances Cost 1,500 Coins
Gamesmaster Fleurian also sells ten weapon appearances for 150 Illusionary Coins each.
The complete collection costs 1,500 coins.
The available appearances include:
- Arcane Ranger’s Spellbow
- Spellbreaker’s Bladestaff
- Nullbeacon Rift Channeler
- Spellbreaker’s Phoenixglaive
- Spellbreaker’s Bladelance
- Spellbreaker’s Phoenixblade
- Mage Guard’s Spellsteel
- Mage Guard’s Spellblade
- Nullbeacon Rift Smasher
- Spellbreaker’s Shieldwall
These appearances use Silvermoon, Spellbreaker and arcane themes.
Players without enough coins for the complete collection should prioritise weapon types their characters can actually use.
The shield, warglaives and bow are more specialised than the swords, staves and polearms.
Buying every appearance is satisfying.
Buying a weapon nobody on the account can equip because a list said it was number four is less essential.
The Toys Are Another Uncertain Reward
Decor Duel also offers several toys through Gamesmaster Fleurian.
The known selection includes Animated Bench, Enchanted Hourglass and Winner’s Podium.
Each toy costs 200 Illusionary Coins.
Like the mount and weapon appearances, their availability after Patch 12.1 has not been clearly guaranteed.
Toy collectors should therefore purchase them before spending large amounts on housing decor.
The Animated Bench is especially appropriate for anyone who has spent the event disguising themselves as furniture.
WoW rarely allows a temporary game mode to become a permanent seating arrangement.
Housing Decorations Will Remain Available
Blizzard has explicitly stated that Decor Duel’s housing decorations will remain obtainable after the activity closes.
They will continue to be sold by vendors in Silvermoon City.
Current PTR information indicates that the decorations may move to a different currency, with Voidlight Marl expected to replace Illusionary Coins.
The final prices have not been confirmed.
This means players do not need to panic-buy every cookpot, lamp and lumber pile before the patch.
They may still choose to purchase desired decorations now if they have spare Illusionary Coins.
However, the housing items are the lowest priority because Blizzard has already promised another route to them.
What Should You Buy First?
Players with limited currency should use the following priority:
- Magister’s Spell Bee Comb mount.
- Favourite weapon appearances.
- Decor Duel toys.
- Remaining weapon appearances.
- Housing decorations.
- Temporary ability kits and enhancements.
The final category should generally be avoided unless the items are needed to complete achievements or make the remaining grind easier.
Ability kits and enhancements improve performance inside Decor Duel.
Once the event disappears, their practical value disappears with it.
Spending the final coins on an activity upgrade five minutes before the activity is removed would be impressively faithful to the spirit of World of Warcraft gearing.
All Major Cosmetic Rewards Cost Thousands of Coins
The mount costs 500 coins.
The ten weapon appearances cost 1,500 coins.
The toys add several hundred more.
Players attempting to buy the entire non-housing collection therefore need more than 2,000 Illusionary Coins.
That sounds intimidating, but Blizzard has increased the event’s currency rewards by 100% during its final surge.
A completed match can now award approximately 30 to 35 coins depending on performance.
The currency is also Warband transferable.
Players can combine coins earned by different characters rather than completing the entire grind on one hero.
Double Coin Rewards Make the Final Grind Faster
Blizzard increased Illusionary Coin rewards to help players finish their collections before Patch 12.1.
The final-surge update also made several gameplay changes:
- Hiders are no longer automatically revealed during the final 30 seconds.
- Hiders who remain stationary no longer attract revealing flies.
- Seeker energy increases 20% more slowly.
- Illusionary Coin rewards have been doubled.
These changes make hiding more forgiving and reduce some of the frustrations players encountered when the mode launched.
Removing the flies is particularly sensible.
The central purpose of a hiding game is generally to reward good hiding.
Punishing someone for remaining still behind a chair was an ambitious alternative interpretation.
Remember the Daily Quest
Players farming coins should pick up the Decor Duel daily quest before queueing.
The quest asks players to complete two matches and provides an additional currency reward.
Completing the daily while earning match rewards is substantially more efficient than repeatedly queueing without it.
Because Illusionary Coins are Warband transferable, players can also complete useful character-specific objectives and consolidate the currency afterward.
Check every character before beginning another long farming session.
A forgotten stack of coins on an alt can save several matches.
It may also reveal that the character has been standing in Silvermoon since April wearing half a transmog and no trousers.
Do Not Spend Coins on Every Upgrade Kit
Gamesmaster Fleurian sells additional Seeker abilities and Hider enhancements for 20 coins each.
These upgrades can make matches easier and may be required for certain Decor Duel achievements.
They should not take priority over permanent rewards unless the player intends to complete those achievements.
The mount, toys and appearances remain part of the account’s collection.
An extra ability for a game mode closing next week does not.
Buy only the upgrades needed for the preferred role or achievement.
Then direct the remaining coins toward permanent items.
Will the Mount Return Later?
Blizzard has not stated that Magister’s Spell Bee Comb will be permanently removed from the game.
The mount could return through another vendor, a future version of Decor Duel or a different currency.
It could also remain unavailable for an extended period.
The important distinction is that only the housing decorations have been specifically confirmed to remain obtainable after Patch 12.1.
Players should not interpret silence as proof of permanent removal.
They should also not interpret it as a promise that the mount will be waiting on another vendor next Wednesday.
Anyone who wants the mount should buy it while the acquisition method is known and available.
Use the Currency Before Patch Day
Do not wait until maintenance begins to visit the vendor.
The safest approach is to finish spending Illusionary Coins before the final regional reset.
Patch-day schedules can change, realms can go offline earlier than expected and vendor behaviour may be altered as part of the update.
Players should also avoid assuming that unused coins will automatically convert into Voidlight Marl or another currency.
No automatic conversion has been confirmed.
Spend the currency on permanent rewards rather than keeping it as a souvenir from a game mode where you once spent three minutes pretending to be a cookpot.
