WoW Forever’s beta classes are moving again, and this time several of the biggest changes are buffs.

The latest beta build contains another substantial round of datamined class tuning, with Wrath, Lightning Bolt, Lava Burst and Holy Strike among the abilities receiving improvements. Mages get longer windows on Hot Streak and Wake of Fire, Priests gain Spirit scaling on Dark Sacrifice, and Paladins receive a particularly interesting collection of changes involving Holy Strike, Righteous Fury and several talents.

As always with Forever datamining, there is an enormous warning label attached. These numbers come from the current beta files. They can change again before launch, and considering the speed at which Blizzard is currently adjusting things, some probably will.

Holy Strike Is Getting Faster and Stronger

Paladins have arguably received the most immediately noticeable changes.

The latest WoW Forever beta datamining shows Holy Strike dropping from a 12-second cooldown to 10 seconds across its ranks. Several ranks are also getting higher weapon-damage scaling. One higher-rank version, for example, moves from 40% weapon damage to 50%, while still adding its flat Holy damage on top.

That is not merely a number getting slightly larger. A shorter cooldown makes Holy Strike part of the rotation more often, and the additional weapon scaling means better weapons should matter more.

Paladins are not receiving buffs everywhere, however. Righteous Fury’s bonus threat is being reduced from 90% to 60%, while several Paladin talents are also being rearranged or adjusted. That makes this look less like a simple “Paladins buffed” patch and more like Blizzard trying to define where the class should generate its power.

That kind of experimentation is precisely why Blizzard just reduced WoW Forever’s beta respec cost to just 1 silver. Talent trees and class mechanics are currently changing quickly enough that locking testers into yesterday’s build would be slightly unhelpful.

Druids Get More Wrath Damage

Druids also appear to be getting a straightforward offensive improvement, with Wrath damage increased in the new build.

That may sound less exciting than discovering a secret weapon or entirely new racial ability, but basic spell tuning matters enormously in a level 1-to-60 game. Forever is deliberately making outdoor enemies dangerous enough that normal questing rotations matter again. A stronger bread-and-butter spell can therefore affect far more than raid simulations at level 60.

It is another reminder that the classes players are testing today are not necessarily the classes they will play at launch. Our WoW Forever beginner’s guide already recommends choosing a class because you enjoy its toolkit rather than because somebody has declared it mathematically superior during beta week two. This build is a pretty good demonstration of why.

Shamans Get Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst Buffs

Shamans are another major beneficiary.

The current datamining shows increased damage for Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst, alongside adjustments to Elemental talents. Elemental Alacrity, for example, continues to interact with Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Lava Burst cast times, while the talent itself has also moved position in the tree.

Forever is doing considerably more than reproducing Vanilla talent trees exactly. New abilities, altered talents and mechanics borrowed or reimagined from other versions of WoW are being mixed together to create something that still feels old-school without being mechanically frozen in 2006.

That broader philosophy is one of the biggest differences covered in our complete guide to what is new in WoW Forever. The game keeps Classic’s slower world and level 60 structure, but Blizzard is clearly willing to rebuild the classes living inside it.

Mages Get Longer Proc Windows

Mages are receiving a slightly different kind of improvement.

Hot Streak and Wake of Fire now last longer in the latest data, giving players more time to make use of their proc windows rather than immediately pressing the appropriate button before the game changes its mind.

That becomes especially interesting because Forever players are already discovering unusual Mage interactions outside the normal talent system. The recently discovered Coldflame Saber has even created speculation about a possible Battle Mage playstyle, showing how class tuning and Forever’s strange new loot can collide in ways that are difficult to predict from spell coefficients alone.

Priest Dark Sacrifice Now Scales With Spirit

Priests have a quieter but potentially important change: Dark Sacrifice now scales with Spirit.

Spirit is one of those stats that becomes much more interesting when Blizzard starts attaching additional class mechanics to it. Forever has repeatedly shown an appetite for making older stats, professions and itemization choices relevant again instead of simply reproducing their original limitations.

Whether Dark Sacrifice’s new scaling becomes important will depend on the final numbers and available gear, but it is exactly the sort of change worth watching as the beta progresses.

Forever’s Classes Are Still Very Much Under Construction

This build arrives immediately after Blizzard heavily reduced the new Gnome Eureka! racial’s resource discounts, another reminder of just how quickly Forever’s combat systems are moving.

One day a racial can reduce Mana costs by 50%. The next day it says 10%. One build has one Holy Strike. The next makes it faster and harder-hitting.

That is not necessarily instability. It is what a beta with actual class testing is supposed to look like.

For now, Druids, Shamans and Paladins have several new reasons to return to the training dummy.

Fortunately, respeccing only costs a silver.
