Blizzard has spent considerable effort making the journey through Azeroth important again. World of Warcraft: Forever offers dangerous wilderness, new quests, redesigned dungeons, and a leveling experience that is supposed to feel like an adventure rather than an obstacle before the real game begins. Naturally, five players have now reached level 60 in approximately 52 hours. Somewhere at Blizzard headquarters, somebody responsible for designing a thousand new quests may be staring thoughtfully at a wall.

The first reported level 60 characters in WoW Forever belong to a five-player group that reached the cap almost simultaneously, less than three days after the November 4 launch. The players, Jokerd Prime, Burning Speed, Cloud Bells, Lmgd Mmr, and Vitochie Gofast, accomplished the feat on an EU Normal realm using coordinated area-of-effect farming. Their achievement is particularly remarkable because they did not simply race to the finish. They carefully arranged to cross it together.

WoW Forever First Level 60: How the Team Did It

According to Wowhead's report, the group consisted of three Mages, a Paladin, and a Shaman. The Paladin gathered enormous packs of enemies while the Mages eliminated them with Arcane Explosion. As Icy Veins explains, the team increasingly concentrated on continuous AoE grinding around level 35, moving through farming locations in Dustwallow Marsh, Stranglethorn Vale, Tanaris, and the Western Plaguelands.

The most extraordinary part came at the end. The players wanted all five characters to reach level 60 together, which required carefully synchronizing their experience gains. Jokerd explained that even a single experience point could leave somebody behind. During the final four percent of level 59, the group calculated which enemies to defeat and when. Warcraft has produced some elaborate raid strategies over the years, but turning the final moments of leveling into a five-person mathematics examination is impressive in its own peculiar way.

Jokerd is no stranger to this kind of achievement. Back in August 2019, he reached level 60 first in WoW Classic, using a Frost Mage and extensive AoE farming. Wowhead documented that earlier record at roughly 79 hours of played time. The two achievements cannot be compared directly because Forever involved a coordinated group and a different measurement of time, but the historical connection is irresistible. Seven years later, the same player is still finding ways to make enormous numbers of monsters disappear.

Blizzard Nerfed Dungeon XP, but Players Found Another Route

The achievement has revived an uncomfortable question about Forever's leveling philosophy. As we previously reported, Blizzard reduced experience from repeated dungeon grinding while increasing rewards from dungeon quests. The intention was to encourage players to explore the world rather than spend their entire journey inside the same instance. The World First team did remain outdoors, but its carefully optimized farming strategy was hardly the leisurely adventure Blizzard appeared to have in mind.

Layering has also become part of the discussion. Icy Veins reports that the group used transitions between world layers to maintain access to respawning enemies, while some community members have criticized the technique. That criticism should not be confused with proof of cheating. Blizzard has not announced an enforcement action against the team, and the available reporting does not establish that its method violated the rules.

There is another important distinction. Blizzard's beta leveling statistics showed that ordinary players took approximately 20.5 hours to reach level 20, almost identical to Classic's 20.4-hour average. Five highly prepared speedrunners reaching level 60 in 52 hours tells us relatively little about how long the journey will take for everybody else.

Forever's redesigned Azeroth offers more than a thousand new quests, new regions, dungeons, and opportunities for exploration. Players following our beginner's guide will encounter an experience very different from the tightly choreographed farming route used by Jokerd's group. And following Forever's record-breaking launch, the contrast between ordinary adventurers and competitive speedrunners is especially striking.

For now, all five players deserve congratulations. Their achievement required preparation, coordination, and a remarkable understanding of Warcraft's mechanics. More importantly, they accomplished something that many dungeon groups struggle with even after spending twenty minutes discussing tactics: everyone finished at almost exactly the same time.

Now perhaps somebody should show them where all the new quests are.
