This is why I hate hellfire, both as horde and alliance. Basically ALL players who want to level in the game world will pass through here REGARDLESS of faction. To add onto that the zone has Horde and Alliance bases close by, so you can easily defend against retaliation and get into world PVP with other 90s. Tack onto THAT the fact that major cities have a portal to The Dark Portal and you have a perfect storm for buttfuckery.
90 gankers will always be attracted to the zones with the highest player count post level 20. Since the higher you go the longer levels take (even if they don't take too long.) you can know which zones start to bottle neck and where you'll have to go for a fight.
Tl;DR Game mechanics caused it.
