Patch 12.1 has discovered an exception.
Players have uncovered a hidden Delve cosmetic called Lordaeron's Loss, and the unlock requirement is wonderfully straightforward:
Go to the Ruins of Undercity and die.
That is it.
No Mythic boss.
No 0.1% rare drop.
No reputation grind involving twelve different currencies.
Just travel to Lordaeron, arrange an unfortunate accident and receive a new gravestone appearance for your Delves.
Azeroth finally has a reward system for falling off things.
Lordaeron's Loss Is a Secret Delve Gravestone
Midnight expanded the social death system inside Delves by allowing players to customize the gravestones other players can encounter after they die.
Patch 12.1 quietly added another option to that collection: Lordaeron's Loss.
The cosmetic is tied to a hidden achievement called Die in Lordaeron or Undercity, which was recently uncovered by players and highlighted in the discovery of the secret Lordaeron Delve gravestone.
The achievement requirement is every bit as literal as its name suggests.
Your character needs to die while inside the Ruins of Undercity area.
Apparently the Forsaken have finally found a loyalty program.
You Need the Current Version of Tirisfal Glades
There is one important catch.
You need to be in the present-day, post-Battle for Azeroth version of Tirisfal Glades.
World of Warcraft has several versions of old zones layered on top of each other through Zidormi, and dying in the wrong timeline may not trigger the hidden achievement.
If you enter Tirisfal Glades and see the Time Travelling buff, you are in an older phase of the zone.
Find Zidormi and ask her to return you to the present.
Then head toward the Ruins of Undercity.
It is a particularly WoW solution to a simple instruction.
Before dying, first make sure you are dying in the correct historical period.
The Easiest Method Is Probably Gravity
You do not need to find a particular enemy or deliberately lose a complicated fight.
You simply need to die inside the correct area.
That makes a flying mount one of the easiest methods.
Fly high enough over the Ruins of Undercity, dismount and allow gravity to finish the achievement for you.
There are undoubtedly more dignified ways to die in Lordaeron.
They do not unlock a better gravestone.
Once your character dies in the correct area, the hidden achievement should be completed and Lordaeron's Loss becomes available as a Delve gravestone customization.
Do Not Expect an Achievement Pop-Up
This is where the secret can become slightly confusing.
Die in Lordaeron or Undercity is a hidden achievement.
That means the usual achievement notification does not appear when you complete it.
You can therefore perform the world's most deliberate flying accident, resurrect and reasonably wonder whether anything happened.
If you want to verify the unlock, the discovery guide recommends entering this command into the in-game chat:
/dump GetAchievementInfo(61456)
The game will return several lines of information about the achievement.
If the fourth value shows true, your character has successfully completed it.
World of Warcraft has reached the point where checking whether death worked correctly may require debugging output.
You Can Equip the Gravestone at the Delver's Headquarters
Unlocking Lordaeron's Loss does not automatically replace your current Delve gravestone.
To change it, visit Nelthius Shadestone in the basement of the Delver's Headquarters.
The basement can be reached using the ramp at the back of the headquarters.
Nelthius introduces gravestone customization through the quest A Grave Concern. Once the feature is available, use the nearby gravestone selection interface to choose the appearance you want.
Select Lordaeron's Loss, and future evidence of your poor Delve decisions can now carry a little Lordaeron flavor.
Delve Deaths Have Become Surprisingly Social
The gravestone system is one of the stranger little additions to modern Delves.
When players die, other Delvers can encounter markers showing where somebody else met an unfortunate end. The system can even create opportunities to avenge fallen players by killing enemies responsible for their deaths.
Season 2 has otherwise become increasingly serious about Delve progression. Players are pushing Azta'rec for uncapped Hero and Myth Mistcrests, chasing the limited Fabled Vanquisher of Azta'rec title and turning Nightmare Hunts into guaranteed opportunities for Hero-track loot.
Against all of that optimization, Lordaeron's Loss is refreshingly stupid.
There is no DPS requirement.
No companion level requirement.
No Corrosive Gift setup.
You actually perform worse if you survive.
The Whole Unlock Takes About a Minute
If you want the secret gravestone, the checklist is simple:
- Travel to Tirisfal Glades.
- Make sure you are in the current post-Battle for Azeroth timeline.
- Head to the Ruins of Undercity.
- Die inside the area.
- Optionally use
/dump GetAchievementInfo(61456)to confirm the hidden achievement. - Visit Nelthius Shadestone in the Delver's Headquarters.
- Select Lordaeron's Loss as your Delve gravestone.
That is the entire secret.
World of Warcraft has spent Season 2 teaching us to interrupt correctly, optimize our gear, plan our Delve powers and survive increasingly complicated boss mechanics.
This reward asks something much simpler.
Go to Undercity.
Fall over.
Congratulations on your new gravestone.
