World of Warcraft Rogue players have reached an unusual point in Midnight Season 2: apparently it does not matter which flavour of criminal activity you prefer. The latest Week 2 Mythic+ data places Assassination, Outlaw and Subtlety all inside the top seven DPS specializations at the 95th percentile. Assassination currently sits at #4, while Outlaw climbed two positions and Subtlety gained one, giving Rogue one of the strongest all-around class showings in the current dungeon meta.

That is particularly notable because Rogue did not enter Season 2 with one universally obvious winner. Outlaw was still arguing with Roll the Bones during Patch 12.1 testing, Subtlety lost a powerful pre-pull optimization immediately after launch, and Assassination looked strong without necessarily threatening to make the other two specs irrelevant. Two weeks later, the choice is looking considerably healthier.

Assassination Is #4 While Outlaw and Subtlety Both Climbed

According to the latest Week 2 Mythic+ analysis, Arms Warrior remains #1 at the 95th percentile, while Elemental Shaman climbed two places into #2. Assassination Rogue slipped slightly but remains extremely strong at #4. More importantly for the class as a whole, Outlaw gained two positions and Subtlety gained one, putting all three Rogue specs inside the top seven.

These rankings are based on normalized aggregate scores rather than simply comparing enormous raw DPS numbers. The system awards performance based primarily on timed Mythic+ completions, with higher key levels worth more points and faster completion times providing a smaller additional benefit. That matters because the ranking is therefore telling us something broader than which spec can create the largest damage meter screenshot in one giant pull.

Rogues are consistently completing difficult keys.

Subtlety Is Doing This Without Its Old Pre-Pull Trick

Subtlety's position is particularly interesting because Blizzard removed one of its Season 2 optimizations almost immediately after the season began. As we covered when Blizzard killed the Shadow Dance pre-pull trick, Deathstalker Rogues can no longer prepare Lingering Darkness before starting a Mythic+ key and carry that advantage into the opening pull.

Blizzard compensated with a 6% general Subtlety damage increase, while also reducing the power of its Venomous Abyss four-piece bonus. Week 2's data suggests that losing the pre-key paperwork has hardly pushed Subtlety out of contention. The spec has actually climbed another ranking position.

Somewhere, a Rogue has discovered that pressing Shadow Dance after the timer starts remains surprisingly effective.

Outlaw Has Escaped Its Pre-Season Identity Crisis

Outlaw's rise may be equally encouraging. During PTR testing, players were still criticizing how much of the spec's feel depends on Roll the Bones. That design debate has not magically disappeared, but performance has a wonderful ability to make long-standing annoyances slightly easier to tolerate.

Outlaw was already considered one of the stronger melee choices before launch. Our early Season 2 Mythic+ outlook placed Outlaw alongside Windwalker among the leading melee options. Live data is now backing up the idea that its combination of sustained damage, mobility, control and survivability works extremely well in the current dungeon pool.

Assassination Still Brings More Than Damage

Assassination remains the highest-ranked Rogue spec of the three, but its value is not limited to its position on the damage chart. Before Season 2 began, players discovered that Atrophic Poison reduces more types of damage than its tooltip initially suggested. The discovery was most dramatic for raid encounters, but the underlying Rogue toolkit remains valuable in Mythic+ as well.

Rogues bring interrupts, stuns, Sap, Blind, Shroud of Concealment and some of the strongest personal defensive tools available to melee DPS. That package becomes increasingly important once keys stop being primarily about killing enemies quickly and start becoming about preventing those enemies from performing virtually any activity at all.

The fact that all three specs now also perform near the top removes the traditional awkward question of whether that utility is worth sacrificing damage.

At the moment, there is not much sacrifice involved.

Season 2 Keys Are Already Reaching +20

The rankings are also developing against a surprisingly aggressive opening to the season. Week 2 data already contains completed keys as high as +20. That follows an opening Vault week where 54.75% of completed Mythic+ runs were +10 or higher, significantly ahead of Season 1's opening pace.

Players have also had two weeks to learn a dungeon pool Blizzard was still modifying hours before launch. the final pre-season tuning pass changed all eight Season 2 dungeons, and Blizzard has continued adjusting problem encounters since then.

Meanwhile, players are extracting every small advantage available. We recently collected the hidden profession buffs, route bonuses and dungeon items that can provide free Season 2 power. At high keys, class strength is only one part of the equation. Route knowledge, utility and knowing which suspicious object your Alchemist should click all begin mattering considerably more.

This Does Not Mean Rogue Is Automatically the Best Mythic+ Class

There are a few reasons not to turn Week 2 into a permanent tier-list tattoo. Class tuning is still active. Gear and tier-set acquisition are moving quickly. Dungeon strategies continue to evolve, and the highest-key sample remains much smaller than the enormous volume of ordinary +10 runs.

The raw DPS picture at the extreme end is also different. Demonology Warlock currently leads the very-high-key raw damage data after gaining five positions, while Affliction has made a huge jump of its own. Performance depends on what exactly you measure.

But having three specializations independently land inside the top seven at the 95th percentile is still a remarkable class-wide result.

Assassination is excellent.

Outlaw is excellent.

Subtlety is excellent.

For once, the hardest part of playing Rogue may be choosing which Rogue.
