World of Warcraft players have been inspecting each other’s gear since approximately five minutes after somebody equipped the first impressive sword.

WoW Forever is making that ancient ritual considerably easier.

The beta includes several improvements to the standard Inspect feature, including a larger inspection range, an inspect window that no longer immediately closes when the other player walks away and, most importantly, a built-in Talents button that lets you see another character’s current talent build without installing an addon.

None of this dramatically changes combat. It does, however, remove another small piece of Classic-era interface friction that Blizzard apparently no longer considers sacred.

You Can Finally Inspect Talents Directly

The biggest addition is simple. When you inspect another player in Forever, the character window now includes a Talents option that displays their equipped talent build.

Classic does not provide that information through the default inspection window, which traditionally pushed players toward addons when they wanted to examine somebody else’s setup. As shown in the current WoW Forever beta implementation, that basic functionality is now part of the game itself.

For dungeon groups, raids and ordinary curiosity, it is an obvious improvement. If another Warrior appears to be doing something clever, you can inspect the build rather than politely asking them to type seventeen talent choices into chat.

Or, more realistically, silently copy it and pretend the idea occurred naturally.

The Inspect Window No Longer Vanishes Immediately

Forever is also increasing the range at which players can inspect one another.

In Classic, inspection requires players to remain extremely close together, and the window can disappear when the target moves outside that range. Forever makes the initial inspection easier to trigger and, once the window is open, it remains available even if the other player walks away.

That sounds tiny until you remember how often somebody begins moving exactly three milliseconds after you decide to inspect them.

It also pairs nicely with Forever’s new Recent Allies system, which remembers players you have grouped with and gives you better tools for finding useful people again. Forever increasingly seems interested in making other players easier to understand and remember without removing the reasons you needed to interact with them in the first place.

Blizzard Keeps Moving Basic Addon Functions Into the Client

The talent inspection change is another example of a much larger Forever pattern.

Blizzard is already building several functions directly into the default interface that Classic players historically obtained through addons. As covered in our complete guide to what is new in WoW Forever, the beta includes tools such as a damage meter, cooldown manager, swing timer, combined bags, improved quest information and modern ping functionality.

At the same time, Blizzard has confirmed that Forever will restrict computational combat addons rather than recreating the unrestricted Classic addon environment.

Those two decisions make considerably more sense together.

If Blizzard wants addons doing less, the default interface needs to do more.

This Is the Right Kind of Modernization for Forever

The interesting thing about Forever is that Blizzard is not removing every inconvenience indiscriminately.

The game still keeps contested mob tagging. Gold still matters. Dungeon grinding is deliberately discouraged. Blizzard even restored the old Auto Shot movement delay after players discovered it was accidentally much easier in the beta.

But requiring an addon simply to look at another player’s talents does not create meaningful social interaction or interesting gameplay. It mostly creates another addon download.

That distinction is becoming central to Forever’s design, and it is something we emphasize in our WoW Forever beginner’s guide: the world remains deliberately slower and more demanding, while the interface is being dragged rather firmly into the present.

Forever still wants you to meet other players.

It just no longer requires standing directly on top of them before judging their talent choices.
