WoW Forever has quietly activated one of the most dangerous features ever placed in World of Warcraft: a permanent record of all the stupid things you do.

The Statistics tab was present but largely empty in the first Forever beta build. It is now working, and Blizzard is tracking an enormous collection of character statistics covering combat, gold, professions, PvP, travel, deaths and social behaviour. Some are genuinely useful. Others appear specifically designed to remind you that yes, Hogger really did kill you three times.

The full list documented in the current WoW Forever beta includes everything from total kills and damage dealt to deaths from Hogger, drowning, falling, fatigue, fire and lava.

Azeroth remembers.

Forever Tracks Much More Than Combat

Combat statistics are naturally well represented. Forever records total kills, kills granting experience or Honor, your largest hit, largest heal, total damage and healing, creature types killed and a long list of Battleground statistics.

There are also dedicated death counters for five-player dungeons, 10-player raids, 20-player raids and 40-player raids. That fits neatly with Forever’s unusual endgame structure, where every raid tier is planned to include both 10-player and 20-player content, while 40-player raids remain special events.

But Forever goes considerably further.

The Wealth section tracks auction purchases, auctions posted, gold earned from auctions, quests and vendors, gold spent on travel, postage, barber shops and talent resets, plus the most gold you have ever owned. Considering Forever is currently experimenting with extremely cheap talent respecs, somebody somewhere will inevitably turn “gold spent on respecs” into a personal challenge.

Your Professions Are Being Counted Too

The Statistics panel also keeps a surprisingly detailed eye on crafting.

It tracks profession skill levels, recipes learned, items disenchanted, materials produced through disenchanting and individual recipe categories for Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Fishing, Cooking and First Aid receive their own counters as well.

That makes even more sense now that Forever is adding more than 600 profession recipes alongside major profession-interface improvements. Blizzard clearly wants crafting to remain a substantial part of the leveling experience rather than something players remember exists at level 60.

And Then We Reach the Important Statistics

This is where things become excellent.

Forever tracks the number of hugs, cheers, facepalms, LOLs and waves your character performs. It even counts how many times you have played the world’s smallest violin.

There are counters for food eaten, beverages consumed, Health Potions used, Mana Potions used, Healthstones consumed and bandages applied. Travel gets similar treatment, including flight paths taken, Mage portals used, Hearthstones used and summons accepted.

In other words, the statistics page is slowly becoming an archaeological record of your entire character.

This Fits Forever Better Than It Might Seem

Forever’s design increasingly revolves around making individual characters feel like they have a history. The Recent Allies system remembers the people you have adventured with, while the account-wide Legacy system rewards long-term exploration and progression. The Statistics panel approaches the same idea from another direction.

None of these numbers make your character stronger. They simply document what happened along the way.

Our WoW Forever beginner’s guide already stresses that Forever is trying to make the journey from level 1 to 60 matter again. A detailed record of where your gold went, how many quests you finished, which professions you mastered and exactly how many times you drowned because you were not paying attention fits that philosophy remarkably well.

Especially the drowning.

Some statistics exist to measure progress.

Others exist so Azeroth can keep receipts.
