World of Warcraft’s Season 2 trinket balance is apparently approaching its final form, which is encouraging news if you enjoy stability and slightly more concerning news if the trinket you have been staring at for four weeks still appears to have been balanced by somebody rolling dice under a desk. Blizzard has announced what it expects to be the final major round of raid and dungeon trinket adjustments for Midnight Season 2, with the changes arriving during the September 22 weekly maintenance in North America and the September 23 reset in Europe. The biggest winners are healing trinkets, with several receiving enormous increases and Preternatural Antivenom getting a 75% healing buff.

Blizzard explained in the official Season 2 trinket tuning announcement that the goal is primarily to create a healthier niche for single-target healing trinkets. The developers also want to address several Season 1 items that remain unusually attractive because Season 2 has not provided enough direct competition, particularly for Mastery-based on-use effects. Blizzard is announcing the changes a week early because they arrive unusually late in the gearing cycle and could affect what players choose from the Great Vault, raids and Mythic+.

Preternatural Antivenom Gets a Massive 75% Buff

The largest straightforward change goes to Preternatural Antivenom, whose healing is increased by 75%. That is not the sort of tuning adjustment that requires a magnifying glass and a spreadsheet to notice. If Blizzard needs to add three quarters of the original healing value back onto an item, the message is fairly clear: the trinket was not occupying the niche the designers expected it to occupy.

Several other healing options receive similarly aggressive help. Mycolic Medicine gets 58% more healing and triggers 33% more frequently. Unstable Felheart Crystal also receives a 58% healing increase, while its cooldown drops from two minutes to 90 seconds. Seed of Radiant Hope has its cooldown reduced from 90 seconds to one minute and receives a 40% healing increase.

That should make the healer trinket landscape considerably more interesting at a point where Blizzard’s Season 2 tuning roadmap has already moved beyond the cautious opening weeks. Mythic Ula’tek is dead, the Race to World First is finished, and Blizzard is now much more willing to make adjustments that would have been disruptive during the earliest progression window.

Ruby Whelp Shell Is Basically Becoming a Different Trinket

Ruby Whelp Shell receives the strangest package of changes. The frequency of all its effects is doubled, while its damage is reduced by 42%. Single-target healing rises by 37%, multi-target healing increases by 5%, and its stat effects are reduced by 50%.

That is less of a simple buff and more of an attempt to push the item toward a clearer identity. Rather than occasionally doing several wildly different things with similar importance, Ruby Whelp Shell should fire more often while placing considerably more emphasis on healing. Whether that finally makes it attractive will depend on how those effects behave in actual encounters, but it is at least a more deliberate role than “small dragon does something eventually.”

Three Season 1 Trinkets Are Getting Nerfed

The unusual part of the tuning pass is that Blizzard is also reaching backward and nerfing three older trinkets that some players still prefer over current Season 2 loot.

  • Gaze of the Alnseer: Primary stat reduced by 10%.
  • Vaelgor’s Final Stare: Mastery reduced by 10%.
  • Algeth’ar Puzzle Box: Mastery reduced by 25%.

Blizzard says these Season 1 items remain too desirable because they were aggressively tuned originally and because Season 2 lacks enough competition in the same Mastery on-use niche. That is a revealing explanation. Season 2 is already well underway, yet some older items remain attractive enough that Blizzard would rather reduce them than allow them to continue competing with current loot.

The response on the official forums has therefore been predictably enthusiastic in the way a tavern becomes enthusiastic immediately before somebody throws a chair. Several players are arguing that Blizzard should instead buff weaker Season 2 DPS trinkets, particularly dungeon options that they feel remain unattractive compared with raid drops and older items.

This Is Expected to Be the Final Big Trinket Pass

The most important sentence in Blizzard’s announcement may not contain a percentage at all. The developers say players can expect this to be the final round of raid and dungeon trinket adjustments for Season 2 when making loot decisions, unless unexpected outliers appear later.

That does not mean every form of Season 2 tuning is finished. Blizzard previously said it expects additional class balance passes before Season 3, and we have already watched the meta move dramatically through changes such as Windwalker Monk’s seven-place Mythic+ climb and Balance Druid jumping eleven positions into the raid top five.

It simply means Blizzard wants players to stop wondering whether the trinket they farm this week will be transformed again next Tuesday.

That stability arrives alongside another major easing of Season 2 progression. Blizzard has also just nerfed four of the eight bosses in The Venomous Abyss, including substantial mechanical reductions to Mythic Ula’tek. The season is clearly transitioning away from its tightly controlled progression opening and toward the longer gearing and push phase.

For healers, September 22 could therefore turn several forgotten trinkets into legitimate options overnight.

For anybody still wearing Algeth’ar Puzzle Box, however, perhaps enjoy that Mastery while it lasts.
