WoW Forever Herbalists have started finding seeds.
Normally that sentence would not require further investigation.
The problem is that these particular seeds are designed for a Greenhouse, and nobody in the beta currently knows how to build one.
Players gathering herbs are now receiving three new items called Commonplace Herb Seeds, Uncommon Herb Seeds and Scarce Herb Seeds. Their description tells players to plant them in a Greenhouse where they will grow over time, introducing another layer to Forever’s increasingly elaborate profession and Camping systems.
The Greenhouse itself exists in the game data. Its blueprint does too.
Where that blueprint actually comes from is currently a mystery.
The Greenhouse Is Herbalism’s Second Camping Upgrade
Forever’s Camping system gives every profession a sequence of increasingly useful objects that can be placed beside a Campfire.
For Herbalism, the first is the Incense Candle, which provides an Intellect buff to nearby players. The second tier is the Greenhouse, while the final known tier is the Seed Hybridizer.
The Greenhouse requires Herbalism 140 and is described as a structure that grows herbs over time from planted seeds while also providing all the benefits of the Incense Candle. It requires a Campfire nearby and can replace an existing Incense Candle at the campsite.
According to the current Greenhouse crafting data, the recipe requires two Simple Wood, one Arthas’ Tears and one Purple Lotus.
Which presents the next problem.
The Recipe Materials Are Well Beyond the Current Beta
The Greenhouse only requires Herbalism 140, which does not sound particularly extreme.
Its ingredients tell a different story.
Purple Lotus becomes available in zones such as Ashenvale and Stranglethorn Vale, but Arthas’ Tears belongs much later in the leveling journey, appearing in places such as the Western Plaguelands and Felwood.
That means even if somebody somehow discovered the missing blueprint today, the current beta population would have considerable trouble crafting the Greenhouse legitimately.
This may simply be another system Blizzard has allowed players to glimpse before the relevant content becomes accessible. Forever’s beta is gradually raising its level cap, and much of the profession ecosystem has clearly been designed around the full 1–60 journey rather than whatever happens to be testable this week.
The Seeds May Become More Interesting Than the Herbs
The seed system becomes considerably more intriguing when you look at Herbalism’s third Camping tier.
At Herbalism 300, players can eventually build a Seed Hybridizer. Its description says it allows seeds to be multiplied or combined into rarer tiers.
That potentially turns the three seed qualities into their own little progression system. Commonplace seeds may be useful immediately, or several may eventually be combined into something better. Scarce seeds, meanwhile, could become particularly valuable if they produce rarer herbs or more efficient Greenhouse harvests.
We do not yet know the complete output tables, growth times or exact relationship between seed rarity and the herbs produced. Those pieces remain either inaccessible or unfinished in the current beta.
But the overall structure is already visible.
Forever Keeps Making Gathering More Than Clicking Nodes
This is becoming a recurring theme with professions.
We just covered how ordinary gathering nodes can now produce rare Scarce materials, giving Mining, Herbalism and Skinning an extra chance at valuable reagents every time they gather.
Blizzard has also added recipe tracking, improved filters and profession-book sharing, while more than 600 new profession recipes are being added to Forever.
The Greenhouse pushes that philosophy another step further. Herbalism is no longer only about finding herbs in the world. Eventually, Herbalists can collect seeds, grow plants at camps and manipulate those seeds into rarer versions.
That sounds less like a gathering profession and more like Azeroth slowly developing agriculture.
For Now, Keep the Seeds
Until players discover the Greenhouse blueprint, there is not much practical reason to use the seeds because there is nowhere to plant them.
Throwing them away may still be a mistake.
Forever’s profession system increasingly rewards materials that seem unimportant until another recipe or Camping upgrade suddenly gives them a purpose. Our WoW Forever beginner’s guide already recommends treating professions as part of leveling rather than something to repair at level 60, and the seed system reinforces exactly why.
So if Herbalism gives you a strange bag of seeds, put them somewhere safe.
Blizzard has apparently given you a garden.
It simply forgot to give you the greenhouse key.
