World of Warcraft has finally answered one of the more important questions of 2026.
Where is the raccoon?
J'imothy, Blizzard's in-game tribute to the viral real-world raccoon Jimothy, can now be obtained as a secret companion pet in Midnight.
He is hiding somewhere in Silvermoon City.
Technically, he is trapped inside a magical prison.
Which feels like an unnecessarily dramatic escalation for an animal whose primary real-world activity appears to involve being extremely round and existing on the internet.
The good news is that getting J'imothy is completely free.
You just need to find him, survive a small Arcane minigame and remove 100 stacks of Barrier Integrity.
J'imothy Has Finally Been Found
Players knew J'imothy was coming to World of Warcraft long before anyone knew exactly how to obtain him.
The real Jimothy became an internet sensation during the summer, thanks to his unusually compact appearance caused by a shortened spine.
Blizzard quickly joined the fun, showing what the raccoon might look like inside World of Warcraft before later confirming that the pet would actually become earnable in-game.
His model eventually appeared in Patch 12.1 data.
But the acquisition method remained a mystery.
That changed after players began spotting an unusual Ensorcelled Cryptid during Race to World First streams.
The Secret Finding community started investigating.
And, because this is World of Warcraft, rescuing a raccoon from magical garbage eventually became a coordinated research project.
J'imothy Can Spawn in Three Silvermoon Locations
To begin, head to the Midnight version of Silvermoon City.
J'imothy can currently be found trapped in an Arcane bubble at one of three known locations.
If you use TomTom, add these waypoints:
/way #2393 28.75 46.69 J'imothy /way #2393 51.32 53.75 J'imothy /way #2393 58.30 41.90 J'imothy
The final location is on a lower level, so if TomTom insists you are standing directly on top of a raccoon that clearly does not exist, look down.
You can also use:
/tar Ensorcelled Cryptid
That makes it easier to detect the trapped NPC when you are close enough.
If he is not at one location, check the others.
Click the Ensorcelled Cryptid to Start the Minigame
Once you find the magical bubble, interact with the Ensorcelled Cryptid.
This begins a channel that slowly removes stacks of Barrier Integrity.
The barrier begins at:
100 stacks.
Your goal is to reduce that number to zero.
That sounds straightforward.
Silvermoon's magical security system disagrees.
While you channel, Arcane attacks begin appearing around your character.
You need to move away from the incoming effects while continuing the process.
If one hits you, your channel is interrupted.
Simply interact with the Cryptid again and continue.
You do not lose all your progress because somebody stepped in purple.
For once.
You Can Rescue J'imothy Solo
The entire process can be completed by one player.
You do not need a raid.
You do not need a specific class.
You do not need 25 Alchemy, Cooking or a Druid pretending to be furniture.
But multiple players can work on the barrier together.
That makes removing the 100 stacks substantially faster and gives everybody slightly more room for error while dodging the Arcane effects.
If several people are already standing around the bubble, join in.
This is one of the rare occasions where another World of Warcraft player appearing near your objective is actually good news.
Remove All 100 Stacks and Loot the Stubby Whistle
When Barrier Integrity finally reaches zero, the magical prison disappears and J'imothy is freed.
Do not immediately wander away admiring your humanitarian work.
Click J'imothy.
He awards the Stubby Whistle.
Using that item teaches you the J'imothy companion pet.
According to current player discoveries, J'imothy remains available for roughly one minute after being freed, so there is no advantage to standing around discussing who deserves credit.
Click raccoon.
Acquire raccoon.
Then celebrate.
J'imothy Is Based on a Real Raccoon
The joke works because J'imothy is not simply another randomly designed Azerothian critter.
He is based on Jimothy, a real raccoon from Seattle who became an internet celebrity during July 2026.
Jimothy has a congenital spinal condition that gives him his distinctive compact body shape.
Despite looking like somebody selected a normal raccoon in Photoshop and accidentally reduced the vertical scale, reports surrounding the animal have described him as otherwise healthy.
Blizzard's version deliberately recreates that unusual silhouette.
The Warcraft Wiki history of J'imothy also documents how quickly the joke moved from Blizzard's social media into an actual earnable World of Warcraft pet.
It took roughly a month for internet raccoon fame to become permanent Azerothian canon.
Modern storytelling moves quickly.
He Is Not a Shop Pet
There is another important detail.
You do not have to buy J'imothy.
When Blizzard originally teased the pet, players immediately wondered whether he would appear in the WoW Shop.
Blizzard instead confirmed that J'imothy would be earnable inside the game.
The Silvermoon secret is that acquisition method.
No $25 mount bundle.
No Trading Post Tender.
No promotional code.
Just a raccoon trapped inside highly irresponsible Blood Elf magic.
This Is Another Nice Patch 12.1 Secret
Patch 12.1 has been surprisingly good at hiding small rewards away from the obvious raid and Mythic+ progression paths.
We recently found that players can deliberately die inside a Delve to unlock the secret Lordaeron's Loss gravestone.
The Coiled Isle also hides 22 treasures that eventually reward the Auriferous Venomfang flying mount.
And now Silvermoon has a famous raccoon sitting inside an Arcane bubble.
These are not progression systems.
They do not increase your item level.
They are simply little things worth finding.
World of Warcraft could always use more of those.
